American Songfest 2002

About the Album: This album offers a musical overview of the landmark achivements of American composers through the course of the twentieth century. Beginning with Charles Ives it straddles the world of nineteenth-century high romanticism and a fresh voice of the early 1900s while other composers represented, such as Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein, span nearly the whole of the twentieth century. Also featured are works by Michael Tippett, Samuel Barber and George Gershwin. English composer Michael Tippett's settings of three spirituals are surrounded by flute and recorder improvisations in a folk medium. "American Songfest" represents the first American Boychoir CD to be released under the direction of the choir's new Music Director, Vincent Metallo. John Charles Schucker is the accompanist throughout.
