Bare Theatre will close its fourth consecutive season with the vibrant, magical tale of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Considered a Shakespearean romance, The Tempest is set far away from ordinary life and tells the tale of a shipwrecked king and his brother, two young lovers and a drunken trio of a fool, a clown and a monster. All of their fates are carefully watched over and manipulated by a powerful sorcerer and a mystical spirit beholden to him.

Critically acclaimed director, Carmen maria-Mandley creates a whirlwind storm of song, dance, humor and fantasy bringing to life one of Shakespeare’s most exotic tales. A cast of twenty combines live a cappella singing, modern dancing, and cirque-style clowning to craft a production that will thrill audiences of all ages.

Bare Theatre is a Raleigh-based company that began its first full season in 2005 with a Rogue Company production of Titus Andronicus, which was awarded runner-up for the top ten shows in 2005 by the News & Observer and The Classical Voice of North Carolina. Bare Theatre has continued to receive critical acclaim, most recently with its production of Twelfth Night in 2007 being named one of the year’s ten best shows by the News & Observer and Othello in 2008, with one reviewer noting “As oNe Young man said to his father at the play’s close, ‘This felt real, Dad’” (Kathy Justice, Independent Weekly, 20 February 2008).

Two locations:

    * Common Ground Theatre: February 12-15, 2009
    * Holly Spring Cultural Arts Center: February 21-22, 2009
