North Carolina Symphony Brings its Christmas Tunes to Eastern Carolina Communities 12/09

By:

The North Carolina Symphony brings beloved holiday music to five communities in Eastern North Carolina beginning next week. The tour is part of a tradition that has become a favorite across the state, the orchestra's annual Holiday Pops concerts. The performances, led my Resident Conductor William Henry Curry, take place at the following locations:

Kinston High School Performing Arts Center in Kinston on Friday, Dec. 9 at 8:00 p.m.
The Roanoke Rapids Theatre in Roanoke Rapids on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8:00 p.m.
Kenan Auditorium at UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8:00 p.m.
Keihin Auditorium in Tarboro on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 8:00 p.m.
New Bern Riverfront Convention Center in New Bern on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The state's premier orchestra will present treasured celebrations of the season, beginning with a brassy take on an old favorite, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and music from Tchaikovsky's First Symphony, nicknamed Winter Dreams.

The program features orchestral holiday classics including Carol of the Bells and O Tannenbaum, a celebration of Hanukkah by Symphony bass trombone and Morehead City native Terry Mizesko, contemporary selections by Leroy Anderson and more.

The audience will also harmonize with the orchestra during a singalong to popular Christmas carols ?t's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Silver Bells, and The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire). Don't worry; there is no need to memorize the words. Lyric sheets have been graciously provided by Chapel Hill specialty store A Southern Season, including a special offer to Symphony patrons attending the concert.
