One hundred years after his death, Mark Twain will be brought to life when Deep Dish presents Paul Newell in his engaging one-man show, Mark Twain Now, Saturday, November 6 at 2 p.m. in University Mall.
"I was looking for a connection between Twain's America and the America of today," said Newell, "to try and channel that voice and imagine what Twain might have to say about America's journey in the century since his passing."
Developed over the last two years, Mark Twain Now takes the form of Twain's own lecture-circuit appearances. American politics, past and present provide the driving force of the show, which also includes readings from Letters from the Earth, Twain's final and controversial book.Writer and performer Newell is director of the Roundtable, the ArtsCenter's playwrights lab. His produced plays include Burnt; Happy Roads; and Tupelo, To Elvis and the Town He Left Behind. On weekdays he works as a writer for SAS Curriculum Pathways, online resources to aid teaching of core subjects in high schools and middle schools.Videos
