The BroadwayWorld Student Center is a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country making it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

The Student Center also offers a show calendar of college and high-school productions where schools can upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.

Today, BWW is excited to spotlight the Department of Dance and Theatre at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina!

Meredith offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in dance studies and theatre. Each major has electives that can be tailored to meet a variety of professional goals. As a dance studies major, you can also choose a NC K-12 license in dance education. Theatre majors can also add a K–12 licensure. Minors in dance and theatre are also available.

Meredith’s varied performance opportunities include annual dance concerts and main stage theatre productions, plus several studio productions in each program. You don’t have to major in dance or theatre to participate—auditions for both Meredith Dance Theatre and Meredith Ensemble Theatre productions are open to all Meredith students.

Highlights of the Theatre program include:

Professional Certificate: For students who are seeking more intensive training coupled with the rich educational foundation of a BA we now offer the professional Performance Certificate. This program better prepares students for work as professional artists both in performance and design.

Performance Opportunities: Put your interests into action—on stage or off. Meredith typically presents a musical, a theatre for youth production, a classical production and a contemporary play each academic year. In addition, several student-led productions are presented.

Nationally known theatre professionals are regularly invited to campus to serve as guest performers, directors or lecturers. Recent visitors include Anne Bogart, co-founder and artistic director of the Saratoga International Theatre Institute, Tony Award winner Beth Leavel, '77, and Playwrights Wendy Mcleod, Karen Sunde, and Lia Romeo.

Stillwater Theatre, formed in 2005, is Meredith's professional theatre company-in-residence. Stillwater Theatre produces one play per year on campus, in addition to those presented by Meredith Performs Theatre. Meredith students have the opportunity to audition for roles and also are able to serve in assistant design and technical positions for Stillwater Theatre.

This year, Meredith College presents an eclectic production season which includes MACHINAL, STEP ON A CRACK, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, ELEKTRA, as well as a slew of dance events.
