Metropolis (Live-to-Picture with Czech National Symphony Orchestra) at Karlín Musical Theatre

Fritz Lang's visionary 1927 science-fiction film Metropolis will be presented in a live-to-picture performance at the Karlín Musical Theatre on April 27, 2026, featuring a newly imagined score by five-time Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal, conducted by Beal himself with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The score incorporates electronic sound design alongside the live orchestral performance, creating an immersive cinematic experience that honors the film's place as a landmark of science-fiction filmmaking. Beal describes the work as "a full orchestral and sonic reimagining" of the film, drawing on the drama and scale of a Mahler-esque symphony while speaking to contemporary audiences. The performance serves as a centerpiece of Composers Summit Prague, running April 23–28, 2026, which also features composers and music industry figures including Christopher Lennertz, Diane Warren, Mychael Danna, Marcelo Zarvos, Christophe Beck, and music supervisors Dave Jordan, Alexandra Patsavas, and Evyen Klean.
