Photo Flash: Meet the Cast of NW Children's Theater's ROBIN HOOD

By:

Get ready for justice, Sherwood Forest-style! Adventure awaits as Robin, Marian, and com- pany return to cross swords and match wits with the nefarious Sheriff of Nottingham and the evil Prince John in this hilarious, heist-lled, original adaptation! This original production was a smash hit when it rst landed on NWCT's stage as a world premiere in 2011. This slapstick production feature a hilarious script by Portland native James Moore, and is lled to the brim with both swordplay and wordplay. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the cast in costume below!

With its true King lost across the sea, England nds itself under the oppressive rule of his avaricious brother, Prince John (Kieran Gettel-Gilmartin). Hounded by the cruel, cunning Sheriff of Nottingham (Kevin-Michael Moore) and his lackey Sir Guy (Pat Moran), the downtrod- den citizens of Nottingham turn to an unlikely group of chivalrous mis ts to save them. Led by the dashing Robin Hood (David VanDyke), this merry band must gather together for one last, big heist to set the kingdom right and save the day. Plots will be hatched, castles will be stormed, and swashes will be buckled.

This fast-paced production pits good against evil, justice against corruption, and rebel- lious teens against "grown-ups." Veteran actor/ comedian Kevin-Michael Moore returns to the neon-pink, zebra-printed robes that made him a star six years ago. "I've never worked on a funnier script for children," says Moore. He then adds, "Robin Hood may have slipped through my ngers for 20 or so performances six years ago, but this time I'm pretty sure I'll get him."

While the legend of Robin Hood is centuries old, director Sam Burns sees obvious relevance in today's struggle for social and economic justice.

"Storming the castle is no longer a viable way to solve your problems," says Burns, "but getting your friends together to raise money, organize a protest, and raise awareness on social media all are." Robin Hood marks the directorial debut for Burns, who has been a xture on NWCT's Mainstage for many years (he even played Robin in NWCT's 2011 production). Asked what drew him back to this play after so many years, he en- thuses, "Standing up for what is right will always be relevant."
