Lakewood Theatre Holds Auditions for CURTAINS

Lakewood Theatre Company will be having open auditions on SATURDAY, FEB. 28 and SUNDAY, FEB. 29, 2010 for the Kander & Ebb musical, Curtains, directed by Ron Daum. Call 503-635-3901 beginning Feb. 9, 2010 to reserve an audition slot.

The director is seeking: 13 men, ages 20-60 and 9 women, ages 20-50s for the cast. All performers receive remuneration.

Audition Location: Lakewood Theatre Company at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

Materials Needed: Please bring a resume and a current 8X10 glossy photo. Auditioners are requested to prepare a Broadway standard song (circa 1959 or prior in that style) in the correct key for their voice. An accompanist will be provided. Please, no recorded music or acappella singing.

Performance Schedule: May 7 - June 13, 2010. Performances are Thurs-Sat at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 7:00 PM (May 9, 16, 23 & June 13) and Sunday matinees (May 16, 30 & June 6, 13). Lakewood Theatre Company features an intimate 220-seat theatre located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.
About the Play: Curtains features music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret) and book by Rupert Holmes (Mystery of Edwin Drood, Accomplice). Lakewood's production will be directed by Ron Daum (Mystery of Edwin Drood, Where's Charley? Brigadoon) and musical direction will be by Alan D. Lytle (Oklahoma!, Ragtime, Hello Dolly!).

The Story: It's 1959, opening night backstage at the Colonial Theatre in Boston. The star is murdered and Lt. Frank Cioffi of the Homicide Division must find out who wants her out of the show. Is it the chorine, the producer, the general manager, the ingenue, the understudy, the director or the writers?

... Jessica Crenshaw: (35+) a movie actress staring in her 1st (and last) onstage musical actress doubles as Connie Subbotin the dowdy wardrobe mistress, some character singing.
... Carmen Bernstein: (50ish+ ) the producer, a tough ballsy Ethel Merman-type with a huge belt voice to match.
... Aaron Fox: (35+) the composer, ex-husband of lyricist Georgia, a glorious tenor who plays the piano.
... Georgia Hendricks: (35+) the lyricist, who take over the lead role, Incredible triple-threat w/ a great belt and mix.
... Bambi Bernet (Elaine Bernstein): (25+) Carmen's Daughter, the soubrette, understudy and equity deputy, great comic timing, an incredible dancer, sings well.
... Lieutenant Frank Cioffi: (40ish) Star struck homicide detective, should sing and move well.
... Niki Harris: (25+) the ingenue and Frank's love interest. Sweet and naive in a ditzy Marilyn Monroe way, should sing (legit soprano) and move very well.
... Bobby Pepper: (30+) the show's leading man and choreographer. Georgia's love interest, should be a great dancer who sings well.
... Christopher Belling: (35+) the show's flamboyant English director, great comic actor some character singing.
... Sidney Bernstein: (50s +) Carmen's Husband, pompous, self-important, small in stature, some character singing.
... Daryl Grady: (30s+) newspaper theatre critic Boston accent (may double as Sidney Bernstein in Act 1).
... Johnny Harmon: (30s+) lovable company stage manager, some singing and movement.
