Welcome to our 66th season! This year, we discover stories about challenges. In the summer, the musicalChess explores rivalries in political intrigue and matters of the heart. In the celebrated musical Pippin, a young prince seeks to find true happiness through his many adventures. Following is the courtroom dramaInherit the Wind, based on the real-life Scopes "monkey trial," in which two attorneys debate a high school science teacher's decision to teach evolution. In the winter, Dial M for Murder shows us how far a man will go to kill his wife, and then we'll stage the British farce Taking Steps which presents a physical challenge to the audience - envisioning a three-story house on a one-story stage - as well as the many ineptitudes of the show's delirious cast of characters. We finish the season with the 1960s classic, Singin' In the Rain as the movie industry moves from silent pictures to "talkies." Are you up for the challenge?
This year we continue our added ordering options for subscribers. In addition to Mainstage shows, subscribers can pre-order tickets to our Lost Treasures Collection Series on our Side Door stage as well asLakewood in City Lights (our holiday gala and fundraiser) scheduled for November 17, 2018 at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland!

CHESS
Jul. 6 - Aug. 12, 2018
Lyrics by Tim Rice, Book by Richard Nelson

The ancient game of chess becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, super-power politics, and international intrigues in this show featuring music by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. The pawns in this story form a love triangle: the loutish American chess star, the earnest Russian champion, and a Hungarian-American assistant who arrives at the international chess match with one chess player, but falls for the other. From Bangkok to Budapest the players, lovers, politicians and spies manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a monumental rock score.
