Puccini’s melodrama Tosca (subtitled “Love and Sacrifice”) is the potent tale of an opera diva who defies the most powerful and corrupt man in Rome, in life and in death. Its gripping story, set amid the chaos of revolution, has resonated with audiences since its premiere, and remains one of his most popular works. Angela Brown makes her much-anticipated debut with Pittsburgh Opera as Tosca; Hugo Vera also debuts as her lover Cavaradossi. Mark Delavan (Falstaff, 2009) returns as Tosca’s nemesis Scarpia, in a period production from Seattle Opera. Kristine McIntyre (Flight, 2008; The Marriage of Figaro, 2010) returns as stage director; Music Director Antony Walker conducts.
