Conservatory Theatre Company Presents CHESS, 2/21-3/3
Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Company presents Chess Feb. 21 - Mar. 3 in the Rockwell Theatre at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, directed by Scott Wise.
In the midst of the Cold War, Freddie Trumper of the United States and Anatoly Sergievsky of the Soviet Union, face off in a world championship chess tournament. The two men, with the reputation of their countries at stake, prove weak in the face of love and loyalty. Released first as a concept album in 1984, Chess has a critically acclaimed score by ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson, and reached Billboard Top 10 Charts around the world, spawning decades of new productions, concerts, and recordings.
The Conservatory Theatre Company's production of Chess includes set design by Anne Mundell, costume design by Michael Montgomery, lighting design by Andy Ostrowski, and sound design by Kristopher Buggey. The stage manager is Maria Scheller.
Chess will have a preview performance on Thursday, February 21 at 8 p.m. with tickets available at a discounted rate of $12. There is also a "Pay What You Wish" matinee performance Saturday, January 23 at 2 p.m. (tickets subject to availability).
Chess runs Feb. 21 - Mar. 3 Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 -$20 (special student and group rates are available) and can be purchased by calling the Pittsburgh Playhouse box office at 412-392-8000 or online at www.pittsburghplayhouse.com.
