Audra McDonald Comes to Pittsburgh's Landmark Byham Theater Tonight

By:

The Hill House Association (www.hillhouse.org) will present six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald in concert for one night only. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. tonight, April 15(th) at the landmark Byham Theater.

Ms. McDonald made Broadway history last year when she won a record-breaking sixth Tony Award for her mesmerizing portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. Beyond the lights of New York City, Ms. McDonald has traveled from Los Angeles to Boston to Berlin performing as a soloist with the world's most prestigious orchestras.

The Grammy Award-winning singer and Emmy-nominated actress now returns to the concert stage to lend her honeyed soprano vocals to favorite show tunes, popular standards, and songs from her latest album, Go Back Home. The evening promises to send audiences home with a song in their head and another in their heart.

"An Evening With Audra McDonald" is presented in partnership with UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, Highmark, the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel and McAuley Ministries. Pittsburgh singer and songwriter Nikki Porter, who is widely regarded for her own vocal stylings, will serve as mistress of ceremonies for the event.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.trustarts.org or by calling 412-456-6666.

Ms. McDonald is a critically acclaimed singer and actress whose work has garnered six Tony Awards, more than any other actor in the history of American theater. Ms. McDonald is the only person to win a Tony Award in all four acting categories. Her performances have also received honors from the prestigious Drama Desk, Drama League of New York, and Outer Critics Circle organizations. Ms. McDonald has released five solo studio albums to date, and contributed to a dozen cast recordings. An album featuring Ms. McDonald in the Los Angeles Opera production of Kurt Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny earned two Grammy Awards in 2008 for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording.

But Ms. McDonald's acting and vocal work has not been limited to the stage. Fans will also recognize her as Dr. Naomi Bennett on ABC medical drama Private Practice from 2007 to 2011. In 2013, Ms. McDonald performed the role of Mother Abbess in NBC's television production of The Sound of Music Live! Ms. McDonald has also received two Emmy Award nominations, one for HBO film version of the play Wit and a second for the television adaptation of A Raisin in the Sun.
