AriZoni Award-winning director/choreographer Robbie Harper will be the guest director for Arizona Broadway Theatre's upcoming production of Bye Bye Birdie, which opens on June 5, 2009, and continues through July 19, 2009. Harper, a familiar name in the Phoenix theatre community, serves as the Associate Artistic Director for Phoenix Theatre and as the Artistic Director for The Cookie Company at Phoenix Theatre. He is also an associate faculty member at ASU specializing in musical theatre.

"We are thrilled to have Robbie travel to this side of the Valley and play with us," commented Cassandra Klaphake, ABT's Casting Director and Artistic Producer. "It's wonderful to have someone so highly respected in the theatre community as part of our Bye Bye Birdie production team." Harper added, "I think it is really important for theatre artists to work with as many different people and companies as they can. It's really easy to get yourself into an artistic rut if you work in the same environment without branching out to see how other companies and theatres work. The ABT family has always been so nice, and I love working with nice people! So, I am honored to have an opportunity to play in their playground."
About Bye Bye Birdie

Conrad Birdie, the biggest singing sensation of the 1960s, has been drafted. But before he ships out, his manager signs him up for one last publicity stunt. Conrad will kiss one randomly chosen member of his teenage fan club goodbye on a live broadcast of The Ed Sullivan Show. Kim MacAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio, has little idea how much her life is about to change when she becomes the lucky girl chosen. Inspired by the hysteria surrounding Elvis Presley's induction into the Army, this fun-lovin' musical comedy presents a hilarious look at bygone days. This classic includes such memorable songs as Kids, Put on a Happy Face, Honestly Sincere and One Last Kiss.

ABT, Arizona's one-of-a-kind, award-winning, state-of-the-art professional dinner theatre, showcases locally and nationally acclaimed artists both onstage and behind the scenes. Following Bye Bye Birdie, ABT will be producing: Forever Plaid and The Taffetas (August 7 - September 20). ABT's fifth season begins October 2, 2009, and includes: Anything Goes, A Christmas Carol: The Musical, Gypsy, Cats, Maury Yeston's Phantom, Footloose, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change and Lend Me A Tenor.
ABT's luxurious auditorium comfortably accommodates 400 guests with unobstructed views from every seat. The VIP balcony seats an additional 44 with tables for two and four. The theatre offers a number of performances year-round with a variety of prices and times to fit every lifestyle. Gracious wait staff serve gourmet selections two hours prior to each show. The theatre can facilitate luncheons, meetings, parties, and special events in its private banquet room, expansive lobby or auditorium. Groups can purchase an entire performance as exclusive entertainment. Discounts are extended to groups of 10, 20 or more.

ABT is conveniently located south of W. Bell Road off the Loop 101, east of the Peoria Sports Complex. Parking is free.
