Roald Dahl's amazing story JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH has come to spectacular life at Theater Works. The play follows the traditional James and the Giant Peach that children know and love but with some fantastical elements. Performing in the McMillin Black Box the theater is being used in ways that it has never been used before. The costumes and props are inspired by the "steam punk" genre and there will be exciting shadow puppet sequences, which take place in the "shadow world". "I love intimate venues for works performed for children, because audience members are close to the action - making it easier for little ones to stay attentive and really feel a part of the show." Lynn Trimble, Raising Arizona Kids. This extraordinary children's play is a favorite among audiences with its new look but same timeless story. JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH runs until February 20th and tickets are on sale now.
Adapted by David Wood the play is "... a great introduction for first-timers to the work of the masterful Dahl ... a theatrical treat for children and adults alike." Belfast Newsletter.
"... an excellent adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic ... an excellent introduction to live theatre." The Stage. The story of Roald Dahl's classic tale is faithfully told by James himself and the insect characters - Miss Spider, Old-Green-Grasshopper, Centipede, Ladybird and Earthworm. Young orphan James is sent to live with his horrible Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. Long days of grueling chores and demeaning remarks from his Aunts make James's life miserable, until one day when a mysterious stranger arrives and suddenly James's life is turned upside-down! When the stranger accidentally spills some unusual crystals on his aunts' withered peach tree, magic abounds and James finds an enormous peach growing in his yard! James crawls inside to the very center of the peach where he finds an unusual group of talking insects. The peach starts rolling downhill and James' extraordinary adventure begins.
