Pig Iron Theatre Company Presents I PROMISED MYSELF TO LIVE FASTER, Now thru 5/31
Coming off a celebrated run at the 39th Annual Humana Festival of New American Plays in Louisville, Kentucky, Pig Iron Theatre Company brings the rolling World Premiere of I Promised Myself To Live Faster, home for a run at FringeArts. The show is set to run tonight, May 22, through May 31. Opening night is Saturday, May 23 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $29-$36 and are available on www.fringearts.com. I Promised Myself to Live Faster is an intergalactic gay extravaganza featuring closeted extraterrestrials, high-stakes pursuits and nuns from outer space. In this wild new work, Tim's out trolling for a good time when an order of intergalactic nuns charge him with a quest: retrieve the Holy Gay Flame from the clutches of the evil emperor to save the race of Homosexuals and restore the balance of power in the universe. But when he's captured by the fabulously androgynous Ah-Ni, Tim's chances look bleak. Ridiculous and delirious, this epic extravaganza of allegorical adventure redefines the search for identity for homosexuals in 2015. This piece is recommended for mature audiences.
A twisty tale of mayhem and allegorical ridiculousness, Pig Iron Theatre Company sets out to draw, with hot colored markers, a spiritual link between hairy-chested drag queen Martha Graham Cracker (the alter-ego of Pig Iron co-founder Dito van Reigersberg and lead artist for I Promised Myself to Live Faster) and Charles Ludlam, impresario of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company.
I Promised Myself to Live Faster is directed by Dan Rothenberg with text by Gregory S Moss and Pig Iron Theatre Company. The piece was conceived and created by Pig Iron Theatre Company and features Mikeah Jennings, Jenn Kidwell, Dito van Reigersberg, Michele Tauber, and Mary McCool.
Machine Dazzle is designing the costumes. William Boles is the Set Designer. Robert Kaplowitz is the Sound Designer and is composing additional music. Robert O'Hara is a contributing writer. Alex Torra is the Creative Producer and Eric Hoff is the dramaturg.
Gregory S Moss is a playwright from Newburyport, Massachusetts. His work has been seen at South Coast Repertory, the Guthrie Theater, Ensemble Studio Theatre/Los Angeles, Soho Rep. and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Moss is a 2012 MacDowell Fellow, a Core Writer with The Playwrights' Center, a 2010-2011 Jerome Fellow and a 2011-2012 McKnight Fellow. His work is published by Play: A Journal of Plays, n+1, Playscripts, and Overlook Press. He's currently working on a new musical based on the life and work of Hunter S. Thompson for La Jolla Playhouse. He is the Head of the M.F.A. Dramatic Writing program at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Recent productions: Reunion at South Coast Repertory (winner, "Best New Play," OC Weekly), punkplay at Capital T Theatre (Austin, Texas), and La Brea with Clubbed Thumb (New York City).
