This fall, four great actors return to Broadway in two great plays, performed in repertory. Sean Mathias' productions present a startling new look at these two theatrical masterpieces.

Today in 2006, Tarzan opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it ran for 486 performances. Tarzan: The Musical is based on the Disney film of the same name and the story by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The songs are written by Phil Collins and David Zippel, with a book by David Henry Hwang. The production was nominated for a Tony award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Natasha Katz). The cast Featured Josh Strickland, Jennifer Gambatese, Shuler Hensley, Merle Dandridge and Chester Gregory.

Today in 2002, Oklahoma! opened at the Gershwin Theatre, where it ran for 388 performances. Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. The original Broadway production opened on March 31, 1943. The 2002 revival featured Josefina Gabrielle as Laurey, Shuler Hensley as Jud, Patrick Wilson as Curly and Andrea Martin as Aunt Eller.

The New York Philharmonic will present Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel, February 27-March 2, 2013. As previously announced, the production will star Kelli O'Hara as Julie Jordan, Nathan Gunn as Billy Bigelow, Stephanie Blythe as Nettie Fowler, Shuler Hensley as Jigger Craigin, Jason Danieley as Enoch Snow, Jessie Mueller as Carrie Pipperidge, Kate Burton as Mrs. Mullin, and John Cullum as Fisher. Bock and Harnick's Fiorello!, the opening musical of the Encores! 20th Anniversary season stars Kate Baldwin, Erin Dilly, Jenn Gambatese, Shuler Hensley and Emily Skinner, with Danny Rutigliano as Fiorello LaGuardia. Fiorello! will be directed by Gary Griffin with choreography by Alex Sanchez and music direction by Rob Berman. Atlanta's Alliance Theatre launched its world premiere of Stephen King and John Mellencamp's new blues and rock musical, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County on April 11, 2012. Directed by Susan V.
