As BWW previously reported, ABC is at work on adapting the hit 1987 film DIRTY DANCING into a three-hour musical broadcast starring Abigail Breslin as Baby and Debra Messing (SMASH) as Baby's mom, Marjorie Houseman.

All the Way, the new play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan, starring BREAKING BAD's Bryan Cranston, is currently in previews on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre. The production officially opens on Thursday, March 6, 2014 for a strictly limited engagement. The play is directed by Bill Rauch, Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, where All the Way began its theatrical life. Conceived by Brian Shnipper and directed by Stuart Ross, Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays began as a series of benefit events in Los Angeles, taking on a life of their own as an inspiring theatrical evening. Theatre and television star Bryan Batt recently spoke out against an article in Newsweek by author Ramin Setoodeh, claiming gay actors are unable to successfully portray straight roles. A number of actors have spoken out against the article, which specifically notes Sean Hayes' performance in PROMISES, PROMISES as an example.
