Hit Immigration Musical AMERIKE: THE GOLDEN LAND Wraps Off-Broadway Run, 8/20

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, the associate producer of Broadway's "Indecent," will conclude the extended run its lavishly praised Off Broadway musical "Amerike- The Golden Land," on Sunday, August 20.

In a time when issues of immigration, assimilation, xenophobia, and socio-economic upheaval are more present than ever, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene will bring to the stage a reimagined version of Moishe Rosenfeld and Zalmen Mlotek's Amerike-The Golden Land, a musical journey of the immigration experience. Playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, across from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, from which the story has taken inspiration, this limited Off Broadway engagement opens tonight and will run through August 6th. Today, Saturday, April 10, Tony-winner Donna McKechnie will premiere her new one-woman show, My Musical Comedy Life, at the Springside Inn in Auburn New York. McKechnie, who won a Tony for her performance as Cassie in A Chorus Line, played the inn last night as well. Richard Jay-Alexander will direct the shows with musical direction by Eugene Gwozdz. The series, its inaugral year, is being produced by Barbara Walsh (Thommie's sister), Baayork Lee (who starred in A CHORUS LINE with Thommie) and Merete Muenter. Here, McKechnie and director Jay-Alexander chat with WCNY Connected.
