George Street Playhouse to Host 'A Celebration of Healthy Kids in the Arts,' 9/19

George Street Playhouse is proud to host "Be Unstoppable: A Celebration of Healthy Kids in the Arts" as part of the New Brunswick Cultural Center's Hub City Sounds Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The free event, which also serves as the official "kick-off" of a collaboration between The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and George Street Playhouse for Austin the Unstoppable, will feature a performance by GSP's Educational Touring Theatre of Austin on the Playhouse's Mainstage at 10:30 a.m.  The day also includes interactive activities, a healthy lunch and an afternoon performance by American Repertory Ballet dancers. National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) presents the limited engagement of The Sorceress (Di Kishefmakherin). Inspired by last season's critically-acclaimed revival of Joseph Rumshinsky's The Golden Bride, another lost operetta of the Yiddish Theatre canon, The Sorceress will be the first piece brought to life under NYTF's new Global Yiddish Theatre Restoration Project. Directed by NYTF Associate Artistic Director, Drama Desk Award-nominee Motl Didner, with music direction by NYTF Artistic Director Zalmen Mlotek, The Sorceress will be presented as a work-in-development, performed in Yiddish with English and Russian translation supertitles, for 5 performances only, running Monday, December 25, 2017 through Monday, January 1, 2018 in the Edmond J. Safra Hall at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (36 Battery Place). (more...)

The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF), recently nominated for a 2018 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Revivial (Amerike-The Golden Land), has completed its casting for the American premiere of the Yiddish language Fiddler on the Roof. Helmed by Academy Award and Tony Award winner Joel Grey, and accompanied by English and Russian translation supertitles, this highly-anticipated 8-week limited engagement, July 4th through August 26th, is set to play Off Broadway at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
