Jazz Women of New York is a new all-woman band conceived by vocalist Lee Torchia. The core group is pianist Jill McManus, bassist Melissa Slocum, drummer Sylvia Cuenca, flutist Andrea Brachfeld, and saxophonist Carol Sudhalter, with occasional subs from the female side of NY jazz.

The original 52nd street location was a cultural barometer and meeting place, inspiring the songs 'Birdland' and 'Lullaby of Birdland,' and serving as a regular haunt for celebrities and cultural figures. In the final subscription concerts of his tenure as Music Director, Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic joined by musicians from orchestras around the world in concerts celebrating the power of music to build bridges and unite people across borders. Those invited to participate include members of orchestras from Australia, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The program, taking place Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 10 at 8:00 p.m., will include Mahler's Symphony No. 7. The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents the Canadian premiere of Anda Union, the renowned folk group hailing from regions across Inner Mongolia, March 26 at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. The nine-member ensemble will captivate with a transcendent fusion of ancient sounds created through haunting throat singing and music performed on such rare instruments as the horse head fiddle and two-stringed lute.

LiveConnections continues their exciting season of string innovations on Tuesday, April 18 when legendary bassist John Patitucci teams up with the acclaimed Daedalus Quartet, currently in-residence at the University of Pennsylvania, for a one-night concert that will cross a wide variety of genres. Commissioned by LiveConnections, Patitucci will be writing new music for string quintet (the Quartet plus himself), as part of a program fusing jazz and classical styles. The 7:30PM show will take place at Philadelphia's World Cafe Live (3025 Walnut Street).
