Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre will present Puberty Rites by Elaine Jackson at their new temporary home at Castillo Theatre (543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.). Performances begin Sunday, November 6th. Performances continue through November 20th only.

The Ensemble Studio Theatre and Going to the River have lined up some of the most gifted women playwrights of color - some new, some established - for a three-week presentation of nine short, under 10-minute plays in return of the series The River Crosses Rivers, a three-week festival of short plays by women of color, previewing September 14 for an opening September 17 (runs through October 2) at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street.

Chairmen for the event are Laurence Fishburne, John Morning and Susan Taylor. The Honorary Chair is Dr. Maya Angelou. In addition to celebrating NFT's vital contribution to the arts internationally, the Gala will feature special awards for 13 individuals that changed the cultural life of our nation: Sidney Poitier, Ntozake Shange, Ruby Dee, Alicia Keys, Mayor David Dinkins, Imhotep Gary Byrd, George Faison, Amiri Baraka, Rev. Malcolm Boyd, Elizabeth McCann, Carla Pinza, Terrie Williams and Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin (for the National Black Theatre Festival).

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre will kick off its 40th season by presenting the Off-Broadway premiere of Cool Blues by Bill Harris at their home at Henry Street Settlement's Abrons Arts Center/Recital Hall (466 Grand Street). Performances begin Thursday March 10th with Opening Night set for Sunday, March 20th Performances for this limited engagement continue through April 3rd only.

In the month of June, New York City will experience a groundbreaking theatrical event. Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre, in association with the Castillo Theatre on West 42nd Street and Harlem's National Black Theatre on 125th Street, will present 25 plays by the greatest Black playwrights of all time.

The Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College presents the second staged reading in the First Throws Play Reading Series, Cesi Davidson's All Dressed Up, directed by Mary Hodges and featuring Lorna Haughton and Sadrina Renee, with stage directions read by Florence Kildare, on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 7pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College, 899 Tenth Avenue, NYC. Admission is FREE and reservations are not required.

'Sweet Mama Stringbean', an entertaining jukebox musical based on the life of Ethel Waters, produced by Woodie King's New Federal Theatre, has a brilliantly talented cast that more than make up for the script's weaknesses.
