The Castillo Theatre will be producing a 26-hour performance celebration of the life and theatre work of Fred Newman from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27 through 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues. The event is free.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre will present Puberty Rites by Elaine Jackson at their new temporary home at Castillo Theatre (543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.). Performances begin Sunday, November 6th. Performances continue through November 20th only.

The Ensemble Studio Theatre and Going to the River have lined up some of the most gifted women playwrights of color - some new, some established - for a three-week presentation of nine short, under 10-minute plays in return of the series The River Crosses Rivers, a three-week festival of short plays by women of color, previewing September 14 for an opening September 17 (runs through October 2) at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street.

This special event saluting NFT, for 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, will be co-hosted by Randall Pinkston (CBS News) and Lynn Whitfield. Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre (NFT) will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special Gala at the historic Edison Ballroom on Sunday evening, May 22nd. This special event saluting NFT, for 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, will be co-hosted by Randall Pinkston (CBS News) and Lynn Whitfield. Chairmen for the event are Laurence Fishburne, John Morning and Susan Taylor. The Honorary Chair is Dr. Maya Angelou. In addition to celebrating NFT's vital contribution to the arts internationally, the Gala will feature special awards for 13 individuals that changed the cultural life of our nation: Sidney Poitier, Ntozake Shange, Ruby Dee, Alicia Keys, Mayor David Dinkins, Imhotep Gary Byrd, George Faison, Amiri Baraka, Rev. Malcolm Boyd, Elizabeth McCann, Carla Pinza, Terrie Williams and Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin (for the National Black Theatre Festival).
