Kuleana Opening Weekend A Huge Success; Expanding To Regal Theaters On Oahu

The award-winning film KULEANA announced today that its opening weekend saw near sell out audiences statewide and will be held over in Hawaii and Guam and will add screens at Regal Cinemas on Oahu including Windward, Kapolei Commons and Pearl Highlands. KULEANA has proven itself a mainstream competitor to other Hollywood films in theaters now. Produced entirely in Hawaii, KULEANA has received the Audience Choice Award in the Santa Cruz Film Festival, the Maui Film Festival, and the San Antonio Film Festival, as well as "Best of Fest" in the Guam International Film Festival. Blue Note Hawaii welcomes some of music's most renowned artists this month, kicking off with the 60th birthday celebration of Loretta Ables Sayre with special guest star Robert Cazimero. The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends series continues with Freddy Cole, one of the most influential jazz singers in history and the younger brother of musical icon Nat “King” Cole. Local favorite and the 2017 GRAMMY® Award winner from Hawaii Kalani Pe'a is up next, followed by genre-bending blues and bluegrass artists Dirty Cello. Blayne Asing & Alx Kawakami join forces for two nights and innovative African artist Vieux Farka Touré has his Blue Note Hawaii debut. Streetlight Cadence returns home to Hawaii for two nights, followed by artist in residence, Robert Cazimero. Next up is a round of local talent with shows by Keauhou, Josh Tatofi and Makana, which is a fundraiser for the Willie K Cancer Fund. Mike Lewis continues his series of tribute shows paying homage to Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, the music of Roberta Flack, as well as presenting a Big Band Extravaganza, featuring some of the area's most talented high school and collegiate level jazz bands. Josh Kaye and Friends will celebrate the music of Stax Records, which launched the careers of Issac Hayes, Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and many more. Gypsy 808 will present the music of Django Reinhardt and the month ends with a bang when HIROSHIMA returns to the Blue Note stage.

Willie K Returns to The Blue Note Hawaii Stage

For the first time since his announcement of a cancer diagnosis, the incomparable Willie K is set to return to the stage at Blue Note Hawaii on March 27. One of the artists who holds a residency, Willie K regularly plays to sold out houses at the famed jazz club located at the Outrigger Waikiki. He will be unable to perform at his previously scheduled date of April 24 when slack key virtuoso Makana will perform in a benefit concert, with Blue Note Hawaii donating 100% of its ticket proceeds to the Willie K Cancer Fund.

Returning to the Blue Note Hawaii stage by popular demand is guitar legend Lee Ritenour. The local artists this month include Honolulu-based jazz and hip hop drummer Dae Han, the incomparable Willie K and beautiful songstress Raiatea Helm. There are also powerful tributes to Whitney Houston featuring Ginai, Quincy Jones and John Coltrane with Mike Lewis & Friends. There's reggae on tap with a celebration of Bob Marley's birthday in what promises to be an amazing evening of music. Josh Kaye & Friends will pay homage to Nina Simone featuring vocalist Sherry Graham.

Blue Note Hawaii is celebrating its second anniversary and the beginning of 2018 with an amazing lineup of music and comedy in January. Some of the national recording artists include folk guitarist and songwriter, Vince Herman and one of the greatest harmonica players of all time John Popper of Blues Traveler. Two of the greatest female vocalists of our time perform back-to-back with the return of Lisa Fischer and the debut of Rachelle Ferrell. The local favorites this month include Keauhou, Kimi Miner, Evan Khay, Willie K, Robert Cazimero, Kuana Torres Kahele and Mango Season. The official anniversary celebration welcomes back Chris Botti to lead his all-star band in a six-night series you don't want to miss.

Next up are more local favorites ManoaDNA and Danny and Nicholas Kaleikini. Average White Band returns by popular demand followed by Willie K and a celebration of Frank Sinatra's birthday with the Mike Lewis Big Band. Robert Cazimero continues his residency followed by the incomparable Herb Alpert and Lani Hall. Donavon Frankenreiter returns for three nights, followed by Jake Shimabukuro and a heart-warming Charlie Brown Christmas show. It wouldn't be New Year's without the much-anticipated return of legendary jazz saxophonist Kenny G.

November Shows Announced at Blue Note Hawaii

November at Blue Note Hawaii kicks off with one of the most influential saxophonists of our time GRAMMY Award-winner David Sanborn. Next up is a member of jazz royalty Delfeayo Marsalis along with his quintet and rounding out the lineup of international artists is jazz pianist Keiko Matsui. The stellar lineup of local artists is a who's who of Hawaiian music including Ka'imi Hanano'eau and the incomparable Jake Shimabukuro. Mid-month brings George Kahumoku Jr. & Bobby Ingano ft. Timmy Abrigo and Willie K. Audiences will be treated to one night only with Broadway songstress Loretta Ables Sayre. Thanksgiving week is a celebration with Anuhea & Friends, featuring special guest appearances by Lana Kei, Kimi Miner, Kamakakehau Fernandez, Mahi Crabbe and Paula Fuga. The month wraps up with performances by Hoku Zuttermeister, Ron Artis II and another not-to-be-missed series as Henry Kapono Presents: Back in the Day; The Songs of C&K featuring Gaylord Holomalia, Johnny Valentine, Blayne Asing, and Alx Kawakami.

The nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center and MEG Presents announced today that tickets for 70s Soul Jam featuring The Whispers, Delfonics and Chi-Lites will go on sale Friday, September 22 at 10 a.m. Three of R&B music's most beloved and consistently popular vocal groups, The Whispers, Delfonics and Chi-Lites, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas.

Blue Note Hawaii welcomed local jazz musicians and fans of the late Jimmy Borges to the first annual jazz festival held in his honor at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort performance venue on July 30. It was a night to love and remember Jimmy Borges, Hawaii's gentleman of jazz. The Blue Note Hawaii tribute show was a night of musical aloha that likely had Ol' Gorgeous Borges smiling from above. Shari Lynn, JB's longtime partner in song, hosted and headlined with three other musical luminaries who had some link with him, largely as an influential and legendary jazz figure.

August Performances Announced at Blue Note Hawaii

An eclectic lineup is featured this month at Blue Note Hawaii with an array of iconic national artists, local favorites and hilarious comedians. The Henry Kapono Artist to Artist Series continues with Jerry Santos of Olomana, followed by local greats Shawn Pimental and Lehua Kalima, one-man wonder Tavana, Kapono N??ili?ili, Brother Noland and of course the incomparable Willie K. The Blue Note Hawaii Comedy Series continues this month with Steve Byrne and Louie Anderson. National recording artist and GRAMMY Award-winning R&B icon Regina Belle kicks off the month and is book ended with a capella phenoms Take 6. More artists this month include bandoneon player JP Jofre and his Nuevo Tango Quartet, the amazing flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert and pop singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson. There are also two late-night shows with self-proclaimed blues road dog G Love, following his performances at the sold-out Jack Johnson concerts.

The good times continue this month at Blue Note Hawaii with an eclectic lineup of local talent, national artists and side-splitting comedians. The Henry Kapono Artist to Artist Series continues with Malani Bilyeu of Kalapana, promising chicken-skin moments for all in attendance. Mike Lewis & Friends will share tributes to B.B. King, Etta James and contemporary soul singer Sade. Island Rhythm 98.5FM co-presents an unplugged pop-up show with Anuhea & Friends, followed by local greats Patrick Landeza & Kawika Kahiapo, a show with Duncan Kamakana & the Osorio 'Ohana, the Keauhou Band and of course the incomparable Willie K. The Blue Note Hawaii Comedy Series continues this month with Ahmed Ahmed and Rita Rudner, presented by Hawaii's Natural High. Donavon Frankenreiter is back by popular demand and new to the Blue Note are GRAMMY nominated jazz artists The Rippingtons. There won't be a dry eye in the house when an all-star lineup of local artists pay tribute to legendary jazz crooner Jimmy Borges.

Marin County will celebrate the 2017 Marin County Fair Let The Funshine In! from June 30 to July 4, 2017.  The Marin County Fair: Let the Funshine In celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love emphasizing Marin's dedication to the things we value most in our community, Family, Art, Agriculture and the Environment. In 1967, the Summer of Love kicked-off with a two-day concert on Mt. Tamalpais called the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival. Nearly 100,000 young people converged on the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, turning the Bay Area into the epicenter of a cultural phenomenon known as the Summer of Love. During this transformative time, music, fashion, art and new ideas flourished and there was a feeling that everything was possible.
