New York City Ballet Announces Digital Spring Season

New York City Ballet announced today that the Company will launch a digital spring season on Tuesday, April 21, the date that would have been the opening night of the Company's now cancelled 2020 Spring Season.

Ballet's sage, Wilhem “Willy” Burmann died yesterday at 80 from complications linked to the current pandemic. After a lengthy performance career, he devoted himself to teaching ballet, serving as coach to numerous stars including Julio Bocca, Alessandra Ferri, Wendy Whelan, and Herman Cornejo.

Grammya"?-winning new-music choir The Crossing, led by Donald Nally, gives the world premiere performances of Michael Gordon's Travel Guide to Nicaragua with cellist Maya Beiser in presentations by co-commissioners, the Annenberg Center on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 7:00pm in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 7:30pm in New York City. Before the Carnegie Hall performance on March 25, Donald Nally and Michael Gordon will have a 6:30pm pre-concert conversation with John Schaefer, host of WNYC's New Sounds and Soundcheck.

BWW Interview: Maya Beiser and Wendy Whelan on THE DAY

Whelan finds the yin and yang in their performance chemistry, saying, 'we're very opposite in nature, which creates balance. I'm more androgynous with clean, clear lines while she has a big, vibrant presence.' Beiser affirmed Whelan's value for respecting collaboration saying she learned from Lang that 'collaboration is about working with others who are great at something you don't do.'
