HAA under the theme 'Harlem at the Crossroads: Sustaining Our Arts and Cultural Resources,'the seven-day series of free events kicked off on October 1 with presentations to actor and activist Danny Glover, legendary theatrical producer Vy Higginsen and pioneering arts producer and consultant Mikki Shepard at Aaron Davis Hall (The City College of New York).

RoaN Productions announced today its participation in the debut stage reading of Bloodrite: a Modern Urban Tragedy in Two Acts, written by Owa (winner: 2011 NAACP August Wilson Theatrical Playwrights Award ).

The City College of New York (CCNY) and its Department of Theatre and Speech are launching the New Haarlem Arts Theatre (NHAT), a new professional theater company in residence at Aaron Davis Hall, which will produce its first season in the summer of 2011. The objective is to establish a professional theater uptown that will rank among the best in the country and to produce bold theatrical works that express the true history, culture, and diversity of America.

Writer, director, and co-composer Daniel Beaty, Grammy Award-winning co-composers Jamal Joseph and Charles Mack, and the cast of Tearing Down The Walls (Dietrice Bolden, Kelechi Ezie, Rumando Kelley, Jevon McFerrin, Adrienne C. Moore, and Umi Shakti) were joined by celebrity guests including Ruby Dee and Damon Dash on the show's opening night, May 12.
