A.C.T.'s The Strand Hosts PianoFight's ShortLived VIII Finals

For the first time in its 12-year history, the San Francisco-based PianoFight will present The Finals of the nation's largest, audience-judged theater competition, ShortLived VIII, at American Conservatory Theater's Strand Theater. The Finals' performances at The Strand will wrap up a nine week competition, featuring over 200 Bay Area artists creating 48 world premiere plays, staged for over 2,000 audience members who score each production. The group that scores the highest at the end of The Finals will be crowned the ShortLived VIII champion and awarded a $5,000 cash prize.
NKU SOTA Wins Big At National Singing Competition

Northern Kentucky University's School of the Arts (SOTA) attended the Kentucky National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky on Oct. 12 & 13. This transdisciplinary experience included two faculty from the Theatre + Dance Program, Rita Larkin and Catherine Keen; two faculty from the Music Program, Kimberly Lazzeri and Joy Burdette; and three NKU pianists, Mika Komuro, Dasom Kwon, and Natasha Pence.

Going into the Mathile Theatre on Saturday night, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I am not overly familiar with The Who's music but I do remember that my older brother had a copy of the Tommy album back in the 70's. I also think that I may have actually played pinball on a Tommy machine. Consequently, my mind was a pretty clean slate and I was ready to enjoy the evening.
