The passion, complexity and pure joy of singing SONDHEIM knows no bounds for a performer, but for the 12 finalists of this year's The Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer Of The Year Competition 2014 (SSSSPOTY), all will be revealed as they sing their hearts out competing for the title on SUNDAY 18 MAY at 3pm at the West End's GARRICK THEATRE. As if that weren't enough for them to sing in one afternoon, at SONDHEIM's request, the 12 finalists will also be singing the 12 new musical songs that are competing for The Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Prize.

A free concert commemorating the 200th birthdays of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner features the Loyola Symphony Orchestra and Loyola Chorus alongside special guests and Metropolitan Opera stars Alfred Walker '96, Greer Grimsley '76 and Luretta Bybee. The program will include selections from Verdi's 'Otello,' 'Aida' and 'La Traviata,' as well as Wagner's 'The Flying Dutchman' and 'Die Walkure,' including the famed 'Ride of the Valkyries.'

I am a huge fan of Louisa May Alcott's story of the March sisters and both films of Little Women, the one from the early 30s starring Katharine Hepburn and Joan Bennett and then the 1949 revival starring June Allyson, Elizabeth Taylor, Janet Leigh and Margaret O'Brien. I'm partial to the latter film, only because I love everyone in that cast, and it was in glorious technicolor. It also boasted Mary Astor as Marmee and Peter Lawford as Laurie.

A southern Indiana theatre will feature 14 local actors in the premiere of its new signature Lincoln production. The two-act musical play A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will debut at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre tonight, June 8. Playwright Ken Jones wrote the new play into a family-friendly presentation of Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood story into a two-act musical production. A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will include an original score of ten songs with lyrics by Christine Jones and composed by Jamey Strawn.

Flying House Productions is currently presenting two shows over at the Erickson Theatre that's bound to appeal to all kinds of musical theater lovers. The problem is that elements of both shows combined form a kick ass show but separately they seem only half-baked.
