The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for Familiar by Tony Award nominee Danai Gurira (Broadway's Eclipsed, Black Panther, "The Walking Dead"). This funny, warmhearted look at tradition, marriage, and what it means to be an American family will be directed by Edward Torres (the Globe's Water by the Spoonful and Native Gardens, Cancion at Repertorio Español) and will run January 26 - March 3, 2019 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage, Old Globe Theatre, Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run January 26-30. Opening night is Thursday, January 31. Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Music by Jason Howland and Larry Kirwan, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and based on the songs of Stephen Foster. Paradise Square is produced by special arrangement with Garth H. Drabinsky in association with Peter LeDonne and Teatro Proscenium Limited Partnership.
Hologram USA Inc. (HUSA) and the plant-based medicine oil and confectionary company Swissx announced comedian Andy Dick will be the MC and co-host of Hologram Karaoke Battle, an ongoing feature at the Swissx club inside the Hologram USA Theatre in Los Angeles. Dick will also appear in a television show by the same name, being shot at the events for FilmOn Television Networks. Swissx gives $1000 prize to the top performer each night as decided by the audience. Hologram Karaoke Battle is happening every Thursday and Friday night, with the debut of Dick's hosting on Friday, November 2.

A dramatic portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama by artist Lennon Commissiong, a mosaic comprised of thousands of colorful paper dots, is on view in the WIZARDHANDS exhibition at Harlem's Dwyer Cultural Center, 258 St. Nicholas through August 26. “Michelle Obama comported herself with grace and dignity through one of the most racially troubled periods in recent times,” said Commissiong.
