On Sunday night, Birdland was proud to launch a new summer series, "Jane Monheit's Jazz Party," which will continue through September. The series provides Jane the opportunity to develop new material, and to collaborate with invited musical guests in a relaxed environment that is part concert, part jam session, part workshop and all fun. On June 10, 2014, producer and director, Caleb Ryan and a cast of rising stars on Broadway revived the timeless music of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in the one night only performance of We'll Take Manhattan, all to benefit Operation Smile. New World Stages played host to the performance and exclusive after party with industry heavy hitters in attendance including Tony Award winners Billy Porter and Michael Starobin, Grammy winner Kurt Elling, Two Time Tony Award Nominee Laura Osnes as well as television personality Chenoa Maxwell from the OWN network's hit television show Love in the City.
Tonight, June 10th is the very first charity gala benefit Off-Broadway to raise money for the children of Operation Smile. The event is titled 'WE'LL TAKE MANHATTAN: THE MUSIC OF RICHARD RODGERS & LORENZ HART'. All proceeds will be going towards Operation Smile.
The Broadway at Birdland concert series celebrated a musical trifecta on Monday night, with sublime jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, extraordinary arrangements by Mary Ann McSweeney, and a wealth of Irving Berlin material. The stellar backup band for the evening evening included McSweeney on bass, Jim Ridl on piano, and Alvester Garnett on drums. Several months ago, the Monheit-McSweeney duo teamed up with a swinging take on Cole Porter's iconic score for Anything Goes, to great acclaim.

On Monday, April 28, Symphony Space hosted its spring gala, Fiddler at 50 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Fiddler on the Roof. The evening also honored the 90th birthday of Sheldon Harnick, the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist behind the iconic musical. The Symphony Space's Gala, held at Capitale, was co-chaired by Lenore Davis and Amy Wilson. Honorary co-chairs for the evening were Mary Rodgers Guettel, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Harold Prince, and Stephen Sondheim.

Popular up and coming writers Tim Realbuto and Matthew Martin (creators of the Broadway-bound musical Ghostlight) will be doing their second concert at 54 Below, following their hugely successful concert last month. This encore presentation is entitled Outcasts Like Us: More Songs by Martin and Realbuto and will benefit the charity STOMP Out Bullying. This brand new show will feature songs from Ghostlight, well-known covers, as well as songs from their new musical, which they have yet to announce.
