Of the 70+ new plays developed at the Playwrights' Center each year, eight are selected to be part of the public season, giving playwrights expanded workshop time with collaborators and the chance to see their new work on its feet in front of two different audiences.

Ironbound, a contemporary drama by Polish-American playwright Martyna Majok, is the final play of the current City Theatre season, before the South Side company takes a summer hiatus. Directed by City Theatre Artistic Director Tracy Brigden, the play runs May 13 - June 4, 2017 in the Main Stage Theatre; tickets are on sale now.

City Theatre is excited to announce the plays and events included in Momentum '17: New Plays at Different Stages, the South Side theater company's annual festival of new play development. The annual festival will run from May 31 - June 4, 2017 and will include three public presentations of plays - plus one musical - at different stages in the development process, a closed reading of new work by a Young Playwrights Festival Alumnus, a Happy Hour/Artists Meet & Greet with Urbanist Pittsburgh, and an interactive opportunity to participate in conversation with local playwright Tami Dixon for an upcoming project. The readings and events are free and open to the public. Art, history, and humanity align in City Theatre's upcoming production of The Guard by Jessica Dickey. Directed by Artistic Director Tracy Brigden, the play will run March 11-April 2 on the Main Stage, continuing the 2016-17 season of new plays. This is the third time Ms. Dickey's work has been produced at City Theatre, following Charles Ives Take Me Home (2013) and The Amish Project (2011). The play features a cast of five tackling ten roles-including appearances by the legendary painter Rembrandt and the epic poet Homer-over three time periods. Tickets are on sale now.

City Theatre Artistic Director Tracy Brigden has announced the first three plays of the 2017-18 season. The South Side company's 43rd season will kick off with a trio of adventurous Pittsburgh premieres, including The Old Man and The Old Moon by PigPen Theatre Company, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City by Halley Feiffer,and the world premiere of Citizens Market by Cori Thomas. Also on the schedule is the original Late Nite Catechismas a limited-run City Event. Full season subscriptions are on sale now; three more plays will be announced in April.

Pittsburgh native and Law & Order: SVU star, Tamara Tunie returns to her roots, performing songs by hometown legends. Her band includes Roger Humphries on drums, Jeff Grubbs on bass, and Max Leake conducting and playing piano. Ms. Tunie, a Tony and Drama Desk Award winner has performed Legends from the 'Burgh on tour and in New York City to packed houses and critical acclaim. Performances are December 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. on the Main Stage. Tickets are on sale now.

City Theatre is thrilled to again showcase original works by emerging young artists in the EQT Young Playwrights Festival 2016. Under the direction of City Theatre Artistic Producer Reginald L. Douglas, the festival features six professionally-produced world premiere plays written by local middle and high school students. Student matinee performances run November 30-December 9 with public performances December 3-4 in the Lester Hamburg Studio. In partnership with the theater departments at University of Pittsburgh, Seton Hill University, and Point Park University, a reading of three Honorable Mention plays will take place on Friday, December 9 at 7 p.m.
