Is she a genius, is she a fraud, or is she...both? The mysterious Celine (nee De La Croix)* is an up-and-coming avant-garde dance artist based in Brooklyn whose debut art film feature Magnum Opus: Resurgere Ex Cineribus will be screened at a one-night-only event on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 7:30pm and hosted by the Kickstarter's Northside Williamsburg headquarters (58 Kent Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222.) The film's Latin title translates to "I Will Rise From the Ashes" and it chronicles the striving creative's re-emergence onto the art world after a bitter experience of a failed artistic venture. Celebrated performer and writer Justin Sayre will debut his new variety show 'Queer Revolution Live!' on Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10 at 9:30 PM. It's the weekend of some kind of sporting event, but we don't care! We're here to create a party all our own! There'll be dance, music, comedy, and everything else you might need to get the year off to its rightful and righteous Queer Beginning. Royal Family Productions (Chris Henry, Artistic Director), a Times Square based non-profit theatre company known for its innovative productions and development of new original work, has announced the complete cast for the workshop presentation of Anne of Green Gables: Part II as well as the the World Premiere of Anne of Green Gables: Part I. Doreen Montalvo (On Your Feet, In the Heights) will be portraying Anne in a workshop presentation of Anne of Green Gables: Part II (January 31 - February 10). She is joined by dancers Mindy Lai (LCT: The King and I) and Erica Misilo. Joining the previously-announced Ali Ewoldt (Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables) in Anne of Green Gables: Part I are dancers Brooke Averi, Nichole Forde, Hannah Hall, Kara Menendez, Stephanie Young, and understudy Juna Shai.

Geva Theatre Center's 2018-2019 Fielding Studio Series continues with the world premiere of The Magician's Daughter, written by Lila Rose Kaplan and directed by Shelley Butler. This production marks the second world premiere of the season, following hot on the heels of the world premiere of Brent Askari's Hard Cell - also premiering in January. The Magician's Daughter begins performances on January 24 and runs in the Fielding Stage through February 10.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere of The Children written by Lucy Kirkwood and helmed by celebrated Chicago director Jonathan Berry. The cast includes previously announced ensemble members Ora Jones (Rose) and Yasen Peyankov (Robin), with acclaimed actress Janet Ulrich Brooks (Hazel) rounding out the cast. Following sold out runs in London and New York, Steppenwolf is proud to present this brave, humane and beautifully written play that confronts the responsibility each generation must face for the way it leaves the world.

Two theatre greats died in December 2018, both with history at the Royal Alexandra Theatre.  Dancer and teacher Blanche Lund died on December 1, 2018, and composer Galt MacDermot died on December 17, 2018. Because of the holidays the theatre did not have a chance to properly mark the passing of these remarkable people. We will do so now.

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced that Mickey Thomas, the lead singer of Starship (formerly Jefferson Starship), will star as Dennis in its sensational new production of Rock of Ages. Rock of Ages is the '80s rock ballad blast that features the music of Styx, Joan Jett, Twisted Sister, and more. With Mickey Thomas as lead vocalist, Starship produced hits including "We Built This City" (which appears in the production), "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," and "Sara."

Pioneer Theatre Company presents The Lion in Winter, a fascinating look at two of the most iconic figures in English history. The play premiered on Broadway in 1966 and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning movie. The production runs from January 4 -19, 2019.

This holiday season, for one weekend only, Dec 14, 15, and 16th, The Public Theatre, will present their acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol followed by a holiday sing-a-long featuring Christmas Carol fiddler Jennifer Armstrong. The Public Theatre's own version of Dickens' classic has become a favorite holiday tradition in Lewiston/Auburn. This inventive adaptation, performed by six actors and a fiddler, was developed and written for The Public Theatre by Artistic Director Christopher Schario in 1993, and has since been published by Dramatists Play Service and is now regularly performed by theatres around the world.
