The Department of Theater at Brooklyn College is one of New York City's outstanding institutions in the training of theater artists.

The Public Theater will soon present the Public Works' musical adaptation of HERCULES with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by David Zippel, book by Kristoffer Diaz, and directed by Lear deBessonet, running for seven nights for free, August 31-September 8 at The Delacorte Theater. Robert ('Bob') Ullman (left), the legendary theatre press agent, whose career included Ethel Merman and Mary Martin: Together on Broadway, A Chorus Line (from workshop to Public Theater to Broadway), Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in The Visit, Lauren Bacall in Cactus Flower, The Dining Room, Driving Miss Daisy, Sunday in the Park with George, and over 150 additional Broadway and off-Broadway plays and musicals, died on July 31, 2019 in Bayshore, Long Island, New York. He was 97. The cause of death was cardiac arrest. Bob's death was announced by Rev. Joshua Ellis, a long-time Ullman friend, a former Broadway press agent, and now, an Interspiritual minister.

Acclaimed actress/singer-songwriter Mare Winningham make her Café Carlyle debut, October 29-November 2. Mare Winningham was seen most recently at The Public Theater in the Olivier Award-winning Conor McPherson/Bob Dylan musical Girl from the North Country. She has released four albums of original songs, including her a?oeJewgrassa?? (Jewish country folk) record, a collaboration with Tim Crouch, fiddle and mandolin player extraordinaire, who will be joining her onstage for the engagement alongside his brother, renowned bassist Dennis Crouch.

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??Joe's Pub, a program of The Public Theater, is thrilled to present Adrienne Truscott's (Still) Asking For It (A Stand-Up Rape About Comedy Starring Her P***y and Little Else), directed and developed by Ellie Heyman, from September 20 a?" October 13. The a?oebrilliantly bolda?? (The Times UK) Truscott returns to Joe's Pub with a new iteration of her provocative and painfully relevant show, which had its U.S. debut there in 2013. Dressed only from the waist up and the ankles down, Truscott (still) stars in this sex-positive, seriously funny, unflinching, and nuanced show about rape culture, but will now be joined by cast members Jenn Kidwell (Underground Railroad Game) and Mari Moriarty (Jet of Blood). Producer Jeffrey Seller and the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center announced today that tickets for HAMILTON will be available online at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14 at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets will be available for performances October 1 - 20, 2019 at the Fox Cities P.A.C. 

The Valkyries written by Jessica Owens and directed by Blayze Teicher will be presented as part of The Tank's LadyFest, a festival featuring pieces written, directed, produced, acted, managed, and designed all by female or gender non-confirming artists. The festival is 'in celebration of womxnhood and the female voice, in all its glory.'

The Bushwick Starr is thrilled to kick off our 2019-20 Season with Waterboy and the Mighty World, a new piece created by Justin Hicks, Kenita Miller-Hicks, and Jade Hicks, the husband-wife-sister trio The HawtPlates (690 Wishes at JACK and PS122). The Lark has announced that playwrights Xavier Galva and Ife Olujobi have been selected as the recipients of the 2019-20 New Voices Fellowship, supported by the Jerome Foundation. This year long residency is designed to support extraordinary playwrights of color under 30, in order to to help address the lack of inclusion of early career playwrights of color in the field. The Fellowship includes a cash award of $15,000, plus a $3,000 Opportunity Fund for the purposes of research, travel, or other expenses, as well as access to The Lark's artistic resources and support. The New Voices program is part of a portfolio of Fellowships at The Lark, which aims to engage a diverse community of playwrights from around the world, at various places in their careers.

Following its Tony-nominated hit Broadway run seen by tens of thousands, Tony Award winner John Leguizamo's one-man play LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS will play The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall for its Sarasota debut on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10 a.m.

The Weathervane Theatre, a professional, award-winning, equity theatre in Whitefield, NH, welcomes actor, singer, and baker Alison Mahoney to its 54th season professional acting company She replaces Leigh Barrett.
