Review: CHICAGO at the Kennedy Center

When the original production of Chicago opened on Broadway in 1975, its subtitle read “A Musical Vaudeville.” And as distinctively Bob Fosse-style as it was (and is in this excellent touring production of the 1996 revival), Chicago has always been a slight history of vaudeville.

New Line's Season Continues With Zombies, The Smart Set, and Yeasts!

New Line Theatre, the bad boy of musical theatre, continues its 27th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, with a public reading of the new/old musical THE ZOMBIES OF PENZANCE, 'Gilbert & Sullivan's original operatic abomination,' free and open to the public, on January 8 for one night only; followed by Cole Porter's satiric masterpiece ANYTHING GOES, running March 1-24, 2018; and the St. Louis premiere of the world's first bio-historical musical comedy, YEAST NATION, written by the Urinetown team, running May 31-June 23, 2018. All shows will be in the company's home, the Marcelle Theater, in the Grand Center Arts District.

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," has announced that for the first time in its history, New Line is selling season tickets, for its 27th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, including the St. Louis premiere of the four-woman rock opera LIZZIE, a very different take on the Lizzie Borden legend, running Sept. 28-Oct. 21, 2017; followed by Cole Porter's satiric masterpiece ANYTHING GOES, running March 1-24, 2018; and the St. Louis premiere of the world's first bio-historical musical comedy, YEAST NATION, written by the Urinetown team, running May 31-June 23, 2018. Tickets go on sale Aug. 1. All New Line's mainstage shows will be in the company's home, the Marcelle Theater, in Grand Center, St. Louis' arts district.

Talkbacks Announced For The Dirty Blondes Staged Reading of Mae West's SEX

FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade in association with The Dirty Blondes will present special talkback events, following their staged reading of Mae West's infamous stage play, SEX, directed by Courtney Laine Self. The readings will take place at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A) September 29-October 2 with performances Today through Sunday at 7pm. Tickets ($17) may be purchased in advance at  www.horseTRADE.info .

The New York Musical Theatre Festival is pleased to announce the world premiere production of TRAV?LIN by Gary Holmes and Allan Shapiro, with musical direction by John Dipinto and choreographed and directed by Paul Stancato. TRAV'LIN will play a limited engagement at TBG Theatre, (312 West 36th Street, NY, NY 10018). Performances begin Monday, October 11 and continue through Sunday, October 17.

Screen and Stage Star Betty Hutton Dies at 86

Betty Hutton, the dynamic blonde who starred in the film version of Annie Get Your Gun and appeared as Miss Hannigan during the original Broadway run as Annie, has died at the age of 86.
