The Instigators follow up their acclaimed 2016 revival of Odets's Golden Boy with an immersive and intimate staging of Chekhov's THE SEAGULL. Lillian Meredith (Golden Boy) directs this imaginative, daring production using an agile and spirited adaptation of the text by Fergus Scully and Taylor Petracek, accompanied by a live soundscape that blends actor-created sound effects with original music composed by Sylvana Joyce. Performances run through June 18 at Access Theater. The production will be a precursor to a new indie film version of the play set to begin shooting in mid June with the same actors, incorporating elements of the live staging. The Instigators are back at The Secret Theatre, tackling two very different modern classics: Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The young company, known for their 'striking, no- nonsense portrayal of a classic work' (Theater Pizzazz) will perform the plays in rotating repertory. In Instigators' style, audiences can expect an energetic, contemporary take on two enduringly popular plays.

From tonight, October 8, through October 25, Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of 'Wives,' newly written by Mario Fratti, in a double-bill with his breakthrough play, 'The Academy.' Taken together, the two plays illustrate the changing nature of the battle of the sexes between the postwar period and now. The two-part evening is directed by actor/director Stephan Morrow, who plays the instructor of a school for gigolos in 'The Academy.'
