Lyric Opera of Chicago will kick off the Chicago cultural season with Verdi’s Ernani from September 9 to October 1, 2022.

Lyric Opera of Chicago will kick off the cultural season with a bang as Verdi’s Ernani takes the stage, with performances from September 9 to October 1, 2022. Written as Verdi was coming into his power as a composer, Ernani is a must-see operatic thrill ride full of grand-scale arias, explosive choral numbers, and unforgettable performances.

Lyric Opera of Chicago’s recent Verdi Voices concert starring three of the world’s most accomplished Verdians — soprano Tamara Wilson, tenor Russell Thomas, and conductor and Lyric Opera of Chicago Music Director Enrique Mazzola — is now available digitally and can be streamed for free here starting today.

The Aspen Music Festival and School and Theatre Aspen announced the complete casting for a very special concert production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC in Concert on Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26 at 7:30 pm in the Benedict Music Tent .

Schmidt Vocal Arts has announced that soprano Nicole DiPasquale (18) has won the top prize of $10,000 in the first national edition of the Schmidt Vocal Competition. Hailing from Tampa, Florida, DiPasquale has just graduated with a Cambridge international diploma from Bell Creek Academy High School. Second prize of $7,500 went to soprano Dalila Lugo (17) of Miami, Florida, and third prize of $5,000 to tenor Benjamin Riverón (17) of San Antonio, Texas.

The top three winners from each of 13 regional competitions will compete for the first national prize in the competition's 25-year history.

As it moves into the final stretch of its 25th anniversary season, Schmidt Vocal Arts (SVA) is eagerly anticipating the final destination: from June 3–5, 2022, Sarasota Opera will host over 30 singers – the top three winners from each of 13 regional competitions and from an independent, virtual cohort are eligible – competing in the company's William E. Schmidt Opera Theatre for the first national award in the Schmidt Vocal Competition's history.

Today, The Cleveland Orchestra announces its 105th season of concerts at Severance Music Center from September 2022 to May 2023. Dutch National Opera has announced its 2022/2023 season, with La Liberté? as its central theme. The Metropolitan Opera today announced its 2022–23 season, which features seven new productions, the most in ten seasons. Opening Night is September 27 with the company premiere of Cherubini’s Medea, starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role alongside tenor Matthew Polenzani in David McVicar’s new staging, conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

On April 22, 2022, Houston Grand Opera will open a new production of Puccini's Turandot created by world renowned artist Robert Wilson.  

LA Opera will present a rare staged production of Bach's St. Matthew Passion from March 12 through 27, 2022, conducted by Music Director James Conlon.
