Next Monday, April 29 at 54 Below, Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) and friends are coming together to celebrate the 2019 ASTEP Color Ball. The 2019 Color Ball is a night to honor Artists/Activists who inspire ASTEP students, Sponsors who make our work possible and Community Partners who join our efforts in giving children from underserved communities access to the power of the arts. The evening is conceived by Broadway Musical Director Mary-Mitchell Campbell (ASTEP Founder and Co-Executive Director) and will allow ASTEP to give audience members an in depth look into our programs and the exciting work we have ahead of us.

Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) announced today that it will honor its Community Partner Lutheran Social Services of New York at its annual Gala and Dinner, The ASTEP Color Ball on Monday, April 29, at Feinstein's/54 Below. Along with Artist/Activist Laura Benanti, ASTEP will celebrate the empowering arts programs they provide, in partnership with Lutheran Social Services of New York, for children who arrive in the United States as unaccompanied minors.
ARTISTS STRIVING TO END POVERTY (ASTEP) announced today that it will honor Tony Award Winner Laura Benanti (My Fair Lady) at its annual Gala and Dinner, The 2019 ASTEP Color Ball on Monday, April 29, at Feinstein's/54 Below. She will join Mary-Mitchell Campbell (The Prom, Mean Girls), Founder and Co-Executive Director of ASTEP, on stage to celebrate Benanti's leadership and advocacy in the creation of the benefit album SINGING YOU HOME: Children's Songs for Family Reunification.
As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this week, Spongebob SquarePants is officially going on tour, as Las Vegas's The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announced the production as part of its 2019-2020 season. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical, the critically acclaimed, award-winning new musical will conclude its Broadway engagement at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at West 47th Street) on Sunday, September 16, 2018, due to previously planned theatre renovations beginning mid-September. Early in 2019, school and youth group licensing rights will be available, with professional licensing to follow. Additionally, a North American tour will begin fall 2019 (cities, venue engagements and casting to be announced at a later date). The production, which began previews on November 6, 2017, and opened on December 4, 2017, will have played 327 regular performances and 29 previews.

Spring has sprung, awards season has begun, and the latter is all that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Katharine McPhee and Leslie Odom Jr. announced the 2018 Tony nominations, celebrating the best of the 2017-18 theatre season (and what a season it's been!). Leading the pack were Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical with 12 nominations, followed by Angels in America, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel andThe Band's Visit with 11 and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two with 10. The Original Cast Recording of SpongeBob SquarePants - The New Musical will be released September 22 by Masterworks Broadway. The New York Musical Theater Festival concluded its fifth season on October 5th having presented 241 performances over the course of 21 days. A record-breaking 25,000 people, selling the festival to 87.5% of capacity, attended the festival. Over 75% of productions had sold-out performances, and 11 productions extended their runs to accommodate demand.
