Lark Play Development Center is proud to announce that seven plays have been chosen for its 20th annual Playwrights' Week, which will take place September 23rd - 28th.

Performances for I Hate Shakespeare are in SBCT's Warner Studio Theatre Fridays and Saturdays, today, August 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7:00 PM and Sundays August 18 and 25 at 3:00 PM. Tickets are currently on sale at $10 or 4 for $32.

Today, August 16 at 7:30pm the Warner Theatre will be showing CLERKS, the 1994 comedy written and directed by Kevin Smith, who also appears in the film as Silent Bob.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for The Last Goodbye, a new musical fusing Shakespeare'sRomeo and Juliet with the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Choreography is by Emmy Award nominee Sonya Tayeh ('So You Think You Can Dance'), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Sept. 20 - Nov. 3, 2013. Preview performances run Sept. 20 - Oct. 5. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are currently available by subscription only. Single tickets go on sale Sunday, Aug. 18 at 12 noon. Rattlestick Playwrights Theater Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that Lucy Thurber's The Hill Town Plays, a cycle of five plays--Scarcity, Ashville, Where We're Born, Killers and Other Family, and Stay--will begin previews tonight, August 14, 2013. The official opening night for all five plays is Thursday, September 5, 2013; the closing date is Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Based on the 1947 original text by Louis Jouvet, 'The Maids,' by French playwright Jean Genet, revolves around two sadomasochistic housemaids Solange and Claire who imagine and improvise a thousand and one ways to murder Madame, the mistress of the house. Both housemaids take turns and dress up like their employer to insult the latter.

The Obie and Drama Desk Award-winning Ma-Yi Theater Company -- one of the nation's leading theaters dedicated to developing and producing new and innovative plays by Asian American writers -- will celebrate its 25th anniversary season in 2013-14, beginning with the New York premiere of BIKE AMERICA by Mike Lew, with previews September 24 prior to an official opening night on October 1 Off-Broadway at The Theater at St. Clement's (423 W. 46 St.) in Manhattan.

Wendy Whelan, whom The New York Times has called 'America's greatest contemporary ballerina,' has danced with New York City Ballet for 29 years. With the company, she has mastered Balanchine's neo-classical repertory, dance classics such as Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake and created works with many of today's leading choreographers. Having reached the height of her field, Whelan, now 46, is embarking on a groundbreaking journey at an age when most ballerinas simply retire from the stage. She has launched Wendy Whelan New Works Initiative, which begins with Restless Creature, a suite of four duets, each with its own distinct style and artistry, created by and danced with Kyle Abraham, Joshua Beamish, Brian Brooks and Alejandro Cerrudo. The work will tour to nine cities this spring including New York, London and Boston from March 18-July 26.

Fresh from rave reviews and a sell out season at the recent Grahamstown National Arts Festival and Baxter Theatre earlier this year, Siv Ngesi is heading back to the Baxter by popular demand with his hit one man comedy show, RACE CARD, based on Simon Kilpatrick's bestselling book THE RACIST'S GUIDE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH AFRICA.

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced the addition of The Santaland Diaries to the 2013 holiday season schedule. The play will be performed from December 13 to 29, 2013 in the Studio Theatre at the Addison Theatre and Conference Centre. Tickets go on sale September 18.

New Perspectives Theatre Company (NPTC) has announced DEAD RECKONING, the 6th Annual Women's Work Short Play Festival with three original scripts developed to that theme. The festival runs from Tuesday, August 13th to Saturday, August 17th with performances at 4:00pm and 7:30pm. DEAD RECKONING performs at NPTC Studio, 458 West 37th Street (at 10th Avenue.)

Austin Shakespeare presents a new stage combat class taught by Toby Minor, professional fight choreographer. The 5-week class (which includes a final class showcase for family and friends) will be held on Mondays beginning August 19 & 26 and September 9, 16 & 23 (no class on Labor Day). All experience levels accepted, ages 12 and up.

Berkshire Playwrights Lab will present a staged reading of Christina Gorman's Far From the Trees, directed by Tim Raphael, on Wednesday, August 21 at 7:30pm at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center (14 Castle Street, Great Barrington, Mass.). There is no charge for admission, however, Berkshire Playwrights Lab suggests a $10.00 donation to help offset its programming costs.
