METAMORPHOSES Opens Tomorrow at The Aurora Fox

METAMORPHOSES by Mary Zimmerman (directed by Geoffrey Kent) opens August 16 and runs through September 22, 2013 at The Aurora Fox Studio Theatre (9900 East Colfax Avenue). Metamorphoses is comprised of nine inter-related tales based on ancient Greek and Roman mythology, each enacted in and around a large pool of water in the newly upgraded Fox Studio Theatre. Using contemporary language and familiar characters, such as King Midas and his golden touch and Orpheus and Eurydice in the underworld, the play explores the inevitability of change and the transformative powers of love.

Playwright Mary Zimmerman explains her idea behind the show: "Whenever and wherever we have done this show, audiences immediately connect to the stories because metamorphoses - change, unlooked for and often unwanted - is an inescapable fact of our lives; it binds us together. These myths give a kind of comfort in that they assert that it was ever thus - that change is the only constant - and yet, out of any destruction, something new is born. And aside from all this, the stories are also gripping because they have a kind of wit, an unexpected humor in their staging that is born from both their strangeness and their familiarity."

The ensemble cast includes: Zachary Andrews, Michelle Hurtubise, Jaimie Morgan, Michael Morgan, Jada Roberts, Carmen Vreeman, Justin Walvoord, Ryan Wuestewald. Each actor plays multiple roles.
