Megan Hilty, Matthew Morrison & More to Be Featured in Boston Pops' Spring 2013 Season

The 2013 Boston Pops season, May 8-June 15, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, will present a season-long tribute to the world of movie music, along with programs featuring a wide variety of American musical styles, including jazz, bluegrass, country, gospel, pop, classic standards from the 50s and 60s, and show-stopping songs of Broadway and the American Songbook. For the programs focusing on the season theme, 'Best of Hollywood Film Music,' audiences will hear their favorite music from classic movies and today's popular soundtracks performed live by the Boston Pops, while the accompanying movie clips are projected onto a giant screen suspended above the orchestra. Lincoln Center Theater previously announced that Betsy Aidem, Blair Brown, Michael Cerveris, Anthony Cochrane, Lauren Culpepper, Alvin Epstein, Kathryn Erbe, John Glover, Jennifer B. Grace, Katie Kreisler, Stephen Kunken, Haviland Morris, Dale Place, John Procaccino, Gareth Saxe and Alan Schmuckler would be featured in the 18-member cast of its world premiere production of NIKOLAI AND THE OTHERS, a new play by Richard Nelson. The play, which was commissioned by Lincoln Center Theater, will be directed by David Cromer and will begin performances tonight, April 4 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Opening night is Monday, May 6.

Closing Aurora's 21st season is the Bay Area Premiere of Neil LaBute's dark, edgy comic drama THIS IS HOW IT GOES, directed by Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross (The Shape of Things, A Delicate Balance), and featuring Aldo Billingslea (Collapse), Gabriel Marin (Collapse, Jack Goes Boating), and Carrie Paff (A Delicate Balance, Collapse, Betrayal). THIS IS HOW IT GOES, about which the Chicago Tribune raved "Highly recommended! LaBute's play has a lot of sting and nothing is as it seems!" presents a one-two punch after LaBute's Fat Pig (staged at Aurora in 2009), tweaking perspectives of truth and interpretation to broach sharp questions about race, love, and manipulation.

Poetry now abounds every month in Albuquerque, but April brings with it an even plumper basket of opportunities to hear poetry in public. Bookworks hosts or is co-sponsor of nine readings this month from popular Albuquerque performance poets, several Native American features, and touring poets of note. To kick off the month, Albuquerque poet and public radio personality, Mary Oishi, collaborates with the New Mexico Jazz Workshop players for a poetry-music combo April 2.

On Friday night, viewers swam in schools to watch the season premiere of Tanked and check out Wayde King and Brett Raymer's sensational aquarium creations. The season opener, 'Pranks and Dranks,' reeled in 1.6M P2+ viewers and was up 53% compared to its 2012 levels. The episode surpassed its previous high of 1.2M P2+ viewers, making it the most-watched episode in series history.
