Two new character-driven relationship plays, both by award-winning women writers and both inspired by events currently at the forefront of our national consciousness, beat out 1241 other submissions in the inaugural Moss Hart & Kitty Carlisle Hart New Play Initiative. Hart NPI artistic director Christopher Hart will direct Silver Medallion-winning plays Confederates by Suzanne Bradbeer, opening Nov. 9, and Exit Wounds by Wendy Graf, opening Nov. 16, at Grove Theater Center in Burbank, where the two plays will continue to run in repertory through Dec. 16. One will be the named the Gold Medallion winner and open on March 13, 2019 for a six-week, off-Broadway run in the 196-seat "Theater A" at 59E59 Theaters in New York City.
Eva Cassidy, the versatile, much-missed vocalist praised for her emotional range and interpretive skills, receives a unique reimagining as her poignant vocal performance of the classic song 'Autumn Leaves' is paired with the backing of the London Symphony Orchestra. This inspired musical context was created by isolating Eva's 1996 live vocal performance recorded at the Blues Alley Jazz Club in Washington, DC and combining it with a new orchestral arrangement by the team of four-time Emmy Award winner William Ross and Grammy winner Jochem van der Saag.
Two years after its sell-out run at Oxford University, Anna Karenina, an original musical based on Lev Tolstoy's world-famous novel, makes its London debut with an orchestra and 13-strong cast drawn from the best talent at the University. It was selected by Iris Theatre as part of its Workin Process programme that gives gifted emerging writers an opportunity to showcase their work.
Moonlight Presents offers two holiday events in December at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. On December 5 Town Hall will host The Ally Coalition's Fifth Annual Talent Show, a night that channels the power of music and comedy toward equality. The evening will benefit organizations serving queer and trans youth, including New Alternatives for LGBTQ Youth in New York City. Pop rock trio HANSON's new album String Theory is now available to be heard in its double-album entirety via NPR's First Listen. Del Junco fashions sound the way Michelangelo sculpted his David: with daring and sensuality (Carlos actually graduated from Ontario College of Arts in his mid twenties with honours majoring in sculpture)! Considered one of the world's greatest harmonica players, he is a pioneer of the 'overblow' technique, allowing him to play a diatonic harmonica chromatically. The result is stunning: an eclectic blend of soundscapes from the sublime to quirky that often conjure different instrument tonalities, from the sax, clarinet, a sometimes electric guitar tonality, to the violin and even bagpipes!
Irvine Barclay Theatre was recently informed that Bebe Neuwirth is withdrawing from her concert engagement at Irvine Barclay Theatre on March 16th. Scheduling conflicts will preclude her from being able to perform at the Barclay as planned. In her stead, the Barclay is announcing a performance on the same date, March 16, 2019 at 8pm, of 4 GIRLS 4 featuring four legendary Broadway singers and actresses.

Jake Shimabukuro has not only redefined what his instrument can do, but has spread the ukulele's popularity to a new audience. His star began to rise in 2006 with a viral YouTube performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (over 14 million views). Called "the Paganini of the ukulele," he's been declared a "musical hero" by Rolling Stone and earned comparisons to music icons Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. Jake Shimabukuro is known for his masterful interpretations of songs by Sting, Leonard Cohen, George Harrison, Adele, Queen and many others.
