Winter Opera Saint Louis kicks off its seventh season Friday, November 8th (8pm) and Sunday, November 10th (3pm) with Charles Gounod's FAUST, sponsored by Morgan Stanley. Based upon Goethe's tragedy and Michel Carre's play, the story has become iconic: Mephistopheles entices the disillusioned philosopher Faust with the opportunity to have his every desire on earth…in exchange for his soul. Faust's decision threatens to destroy his community, especially his true love, Marguerite. Gounod's score abounds with some of opera's greatest gems, including Valentin's "Avant de quitter ces lieux," Faust's "Salut! demeure chaste et pure," and Marguerite's famous Jewel Song "Ah! Je ris de me voir!"

Chapman University Hosts OC-Centric New Play Festival, Now thru 8/25

Two plays igniting the conflicts concerning troubled students and teachers and a pair of plays unfolding the transforming world of the movies make the 3rd annual edition of OC-centric: Orange County's New Play Festival something special. It all happens at Chapman University, which hosts this destination new play event for the third consecutive year. OC-centric is produced in conjunction with Tamiko Washington (Actors Circle Ensemble & Chapman University) and Eric Eberwein.

Clarinetist Thomas Piercy Brings TOKYO TO NEW YORK Today

NYC and Tokyo-based clarinetist, Thomas Piercy performs two concerts of new music by contemporary Japanese composers based on their thoughts about NYC and works by non-Japanese composers influenced or inspired by Japan. The concerts will be visually backed by projections of photos of New York City by photographer Christina Boers and photos of Tokyo by Thomas Piercy. Many of the pieces have been composed for and premiered by Mr. Piercy. Several of the pieces include the combination of Western classical instruments with traditional Japanese instruments (shakuhachi and hichiriki).
