7th Annual Garifuna International Indigenous Film Festival to Commence May 25 - June 3, 2018 in Venice, California

40 Feature Films, Documentaries, and VR Projects-the Topics of Which Span 60 Countries-to Premiere at this year's GIIFF, Along with Several Musical Performances and an Engaging Symposium on the Wisdom and Lessons of Indigenous Cultures Who: Standing out as a respected cultural ambassador among indigenous communities around the world, the Garifuna International Indigenous Film Festival (GIIFF) is returning to Venice, California, for its 7th annual event this coming May 25, 2018. The overwhelmingly comprehensive GIIFF program includes features and short films, documentaries, VR projects, panel discussions, and cultural presentations by some of today's most respected indigenous-focused filmmakers and activists. The 40 films covering these various genres feature topics spanning 60 countries and will be screened throughout the five-day event. These films run the indigenous-focused creative gamut, and range from documentaries about how various indigenous groups' past experiences with human rights violations have affected their present lives, the challenging and often beautiful rediscovery of indigenous cultural roots, community collaboration aimed at bringing forth resolutions and unity between cultures, as well as sectional biographies of many important human rights activists. Chicago Shakespeare Announces GALA 2018

Chicago Shakespeare Theater celebrates GALA 2018 on Friday, June 8, 2018 across the company's multi-faceted complex on Navy Pier. Funds raised will benefit the Chicago Shakespeare in Classrooms and Communities initiatives-which includes the Tony Award-winning Theater's nationally recognized education programs and free citywide Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks tour. Chicago Shakespeare will present the Spirit of Shakespeare Awards to Civic Honorees Marilynn and Carl Thoma and Artistic Honoree John Lithgow. Having recorded the entire service live at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle today, every piece of music, the readings, blessings and the vows will be available to listen to permanently on all streaming services in just a few hours: a first for a Royal Wedding. The physical album, on CD, will then be released into retail stores around the world from 25th May. The recording will also be made available on vinyl.

Eisemann Center Announces 2018-2019 Season

The Eisemann Center and the City of Richardson announced the 2018-2019 Season of Eisemann Center Presents (ECP) at the Annual Season Preview Party on Thursday, May 10, 2019. The season includes our two full subscription series: Jeffrey Siegel's Keyboard Conversations with a total of four concerts; and the Family Theatre Series with four productions and the accompanying immersive children's program Eisemann Extras. Japan Society Presents Yumi Kurosawa and Yoko Reikano Kimura

On Thursday, May 24 (7:30 pm) Japan Society presents an evening with two New York-based master instrumentalists: koto player Yumi Kurosawa and shamisen player Yoko Reikano Kimura, who are revitalizing their instruments through novel repertoire, musical approaches, and playing techniques. The eclectic program will span traditional, classical, and contemporary works, including duets of koto + shamisen, shamisen + cello (Hikaru Tamaki) and koto + tabla (Anubrata Chatterjee). The recital will take place in Japan Society's serene and intimate Murase Room, with a cash bar at 7 pm. Tickets are $25, $20 for Japan Society members, available at japansociety.org/performingarts.
