Portland Opera Presents The U.S. Premiere Of WHEN THE SUN COMES OUT

Portland Opera will begin 2022 with performances of the 2013 opera When the Sun Comes Out, composed by Leslie Uyeda with a libretto by the poet Rachel Rose. This piece, originally commissioned by the Vancouver Queer Arts Festival, is set in a place and time where gender expression is oppressed by the state and being gay is a death sentence. It is here that Solana finds her lost love Lilah, who is now a wife and mother.

Quintessence Theatre Group Readies First-Ever Three Show Repertory

Quintessence Theatre Group, Philadelphia's professional classic repertory theatre, closes out its 10th Anniversary season with its first-ever three show repertory. From March 25-May 17, 2020 the company is presenting the Dreams and Madness Repertory. Each of these three plays explores the danger of love, the difference between dreams and madness, and the destructive power of authority and government.

This spellbinding new play by Scott Organ, which opened on January 22, takes an intimate look at how gun violence reverberates across a community.

The Barrow Group to Present World Premiere of Scott Organ's 17 MINUTES

The Barrow Group, under the leadership of Co-Artistic Directors Seth Barrish and Lee Brock and Executive Director Robert Serrell, will present the world premiere 17 Minutes, a spellbinding new play by Scott Organ (Phoenix) that takes an intimate look at how gun violence reverberates across a community. Directed by Seth Barrish (Director of Mike Birbiglia's The New One), 17 Minutes is scheduled to run at The Barrow Group Mainstage Theatre (312 West 36th St) from January 10 through February 15 with an opening set for January 22.

CSC Begins MACBETH Previews, Announces Timothy Douglas As Director Of Upcoming FRANKENSTEIN

Classic Stage Company kicks off its 2019-20 season on Thursday, October 10, when previews begin for artistic director John Doyle's new staging of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, opening October 27 and running through December 15 at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater at CSC (136 E. 13th St, New York). Today CSC announces that Timothy Douglas will direct Tristan Bernays' retelling of Frankenstein (beginning January 30), which the company will pair with Kate Hamill's reimagining of Dracula (starting January 14), directed by Sarna Lapine, to form a thrilling repertory cycle of adaptations of two legendary Gothic nightmares by emerging playwrights.

BREATH OF LIFE to Open at The Armory this May

Portland favorites Gretchen Corbett and Sharonlee McLean take the stage beginning May 4 to star in David Hare's The Breath of Life, a two-woman play The Daily Telegraph called "bitingly funny." When Francis Beale (McLean) decides she wants one last word with her ex-husband's ex-lover (Corbett), both women are forced to confront their past, their failed relationships, dashed ideals and the lens through which they choose to view their futures. Ken Rus Schmoll (readings in six of the last ten JAW Festivals at The Armory, productions at Playwrights Horizons and New York Theatre Workshop) will direct.

THE MOVING MEMORY PROJECT Festival, Featuring Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup's A, MY NAME IS…

Co-curators: choreographer Stefanie Nelson of Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and bestselling author David Shenk (The Forgetting) present the launch of a new festival devoted to memory and forgetting. The inaugural event will feature Stefanie Nelson's A, MY NAME IS…, a dance piece inspired by a family experience with dementia, using several short films from David Shenk's Living With Alzheimer's Film Project. It will take place on January 23, 2019, at Aaron Davis Hall at The City College of New York (129 Convent Avenue at West 135th Street), with performances at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm. Both shows will be followed by a discussion with invited panelists including Meredith Wong from CaringKind's Connect2Culture program, and a reception (evening show only). Christine Bonansea Company Presents The New York Premiere of ONLYHUMAN

Christine Bonansea - a French-born, NYC-based choreographer known for her striking, virtuosic performances - brings OnlyHuman, a visually arresting, media-enhanced work to New York for its US premiere at Danspace Project. Developed in collaboration with an international group of stellar multidisciplinary artists, and following successful presentations at DOCK11 in Berlin and 2018 Tanzmesse in Dusseldorf, Germany, the evening-length version of this production will be presented for the first time to the American audiences November 15-17. BWW Interview: Life Jacket Theatre's Travis Russ Discusses Bringing True Stories to the Stage in AMERICA IS HARD TO SEE

Before a performance of the play America is Hard to See, audience members have the opportunity to wander across a canvas map of Miracle Village. What appears as a gridded crisscrossing of rural living quarters is home to a community of men - sex offenders - who are finding a way to move forward. Travis Russ, artistic director at Life Jacket Theatre Company, calls this Southern Florida community one of many "little dots" on a map, where real people have stories to tell. In his case, Russ decided that the stories within Miracle Village should be told onstage. In a phone interview with BroadwayWorld, Russ discussed bringing the residents' true stories to the theatre.

Life Jacket Theatre Company (Travis Russ, Artistic Director) is proud to announce the world premiere production of America is Hard to See, a new play with music written and directed by Travis Russ (Gorey: The Secret Lives Of Edward Gorey) with music and lyrics by Priscilla Holbrook (from the band, Susan Jane). Performances begin January 30, 2018 at HERE (145 6th Avenue). Opening night is set for February 2, 2018, with a limited run through February 24, 2018.

Stefanie Nelson is the Artistic Director of Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup, a New York City-based contemporary performance ensemble. Her work distills deeply personal ideas into highly kinetic, expressive, and provocative works that are rooted in cross-media collaboration with artists working in music, video, and visual arts. Described as 'instinctual, untamed, and edgy,' Nelson's dances have been presented at some of the foremost contemporary performance venues in the United States, including Joyce SoHo, Dance Theater Workshop, LaMama Moves!, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, and Jacob's Pillow, and internationally in Canada, Mexico, and Italy, among others. Nelson is an accomplished teacher as well as the founder and artistic director of DANCE ITALIA, an annual summer dance intensive held in the cities of Agropoli and Lucca, Italy. She recently served as a Choreography panelist for New York Foundation for the Arts Artists' Fellowships and curated a series How high is the ceiling in my glass castle? British Playwright Torben Betts Arrives for U.S. Premiere of MUSWELL HILL at The Barrow Group

British playwright Torben Betts arrives from across the pond to attend a performance of his play Muswell Hill, which is enjoying its New York Premiere in a co-production between The Barrow Group Theatre Company (Seth Barrish and Lee Brock, Co-Artistic Directors; Robert Serrell, Executive Director), and The Pond Theatre Company at The TBG Theatre (312 West 36th Street), and to take part in two special surround events related to the production.
