BroadwayWorld had the pleasure of speaking with Broadway's own Brian Stokes Mitchell, who performs 'Make Them Hear You' and 'Wheels of a Dream' from 'Ragtime' as part of the special. He told us about recording in a pandemic, recovering from COVID-19, and his work as chairman of The Actors Fund.

National Harbor, Washington Performing Arts, and The U.S. Air Force Band announced that they are partnering for a special online live streaming concert on July 4 at 4 p.m. EDT. World-renowned guest artists include violinist Joshua Bell, soprano Larisa Martinez, and bass Soloman Howard. Long Beach Opera will host the first of its Community Conversations today, June 14, with a conversation on equity and diversity in the arts.

As part of The Metropolitan Opera's (Met Opera) urgent “The Voice Must Be Heard” fundraising campaign to support and protect the future of opera amid the COVID-19, more than 40 leading opera artists and members of the company's brilliant orchestra and chorus performed from their respective homes all around the world. The unprecedented virtual gathering of Met Opera's principal artists, ensemble, and orchestra, billed as At-Home Gala, was streamed live around the world in 162 countries on 25 April 2020, viewed by more than 750,000 global audience members.

OPERA America is inviting artists, administrators, trustees, and audiences to 'A Toast to 50 Years,' a celebration of opera's progress and of OPERA America's 50th Anniversary, taking place today, Friday, May 15, from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Here's a look at how 'Light Shall Lift Us; Singers Unite in Song' (for OPERA America), a video project featuring 107 opera singers in “a song of hope and solidarity” by Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell, came together to help raise up the spirits of their communities as we deal with COVID-19. It's never going to compete with the thrill of being part of the audience at a one-of-a-kind live performance, but there are a great many possibilities for enjoying filmed live opera performances that can be streamed for free online these days. The most exciting presentation to date is the Metropolitan Opera's At-Home Gala featuring artists singing from their own homes, or where they find themselves, on Saturday, April 25 at 1:00 pm New York time.
