THE LILIES OF THE FIELD Tugs At Houston's Heartstrings

A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theatre companies, is now A.D. Players at The George. The theatre company is pleased to announce its upcoming spring show, "The Lilies of the Field," taking place April 20-May 13, with preview performances April 18-19 at the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater. The critically acclaimed story earned Sidney Poitier the accolade of being the first African-American to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his role in the 1963 movie adaptation.

Mary McDonnell to Receive 2018 Pell Lifetime Achievement Award

Trinity Repertory Company announced today that actress Mary McDonnell will be honored with the 2018 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts at the theater's 22nd annual Pell Awards Gala on Monday, May 21, 2018. A two-time Oscar nominee for Dances with Wolves and Passion Fish, McDonnell's theater, film and television career has spanned more than four decades with dynamic character portrayals in period and present-day roles, including TNT's The Closer and Major Crimes, Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, Donnie Darko, and Sneakers.

Daniel, the sixth production of its 26th season performing February 25 to April 8 (Press Opening March 3). Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail has reported that British pop singer and media personality, Lulu, will be taking over the leading role of Dorothy Brock in the West End production of 42nd Street currently playing at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, for sixteen weeks beginning March 19.

The McCallum Theatre presents the Walnut Street Theatre's production of Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles, on Tuesday, February 27, at 8:00pm. Baskerville features Ian Merrill Peakes as Sherlock Holmes and Bill Van Horn as Doctor Watson. Black History Month is a prime time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in Memphis, TN. What better way to honor this historical event than by attending the West Coast Premier theatrical production of The Watsons Go To Birmingham - 1963. This is a play Adapted by Reginald Andre Jackson. Based on the Newberry and Coretta Scott King Honor Book novel by Christopher Paul Curtis.  This Comedy/Drama production is an All The Way West Productions, Inc. with Harry Jones, Jr. as producer and making her directorial debut, Bernadette Speakes.

Budig Theater with Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, by Todd Kreidler, based on the screenplay by William Rose, playing January 26- February 17, 2018. This production marks the script's Cincinnati premiere, and is directed by D. Lynn Meyers, the Artistic Director of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. The cast includes CSC Associate Artists Darnell Pierre Benjamin and Kelly Mengelkoch alongside Barry Mulholland, Annie Fitzpatrick, Caitlin McWethy, Ken Early, and Thursday Farrar. The production is sponsored by Frost Brown Todd, BB&T, and Moerlein Lager House.
