Maurice W. Dorsey brings forth a fictional narrative of his life and the struggles he had to endure while growing up as an unwanted child and being an African-American gay man. In 'From Whence We Come' (published by Xlibris), Dorsey is personified by the fictitious character named Seymour Rose. He was born to a father who is Catholic and accepts his son unconditionally and a mother who is born Methodist and is homophobic - but most of all, she tells her son throughout his life that she never wanted to have him.

Mile Square Theatre, Hudson County's leading professional theatre, kicks off its 2018 season with Alfred Uhry's powerful masterpiece Driving Miss Daisy. Complicite will stage a reimagined version of A Pacifist's Guide to the War on Cancer, its collaboration with performance artist Bryony Kimmings. Kimmings will lead the company in this reworked production touring the UK before performances in Australia.

Monk Parrots announce casting for their New York premiere of Gabriel Jason Dean's (Princeton Hodder Fellow, Dramatist's Guild Fellowship, Broadway Blacklist) critically acclaimed play TERMINUS, directed by Lucie Tiberghien (The Other Thing, Don't Go Gentle, Soldier X, Hoodoo Love, The Pavilion). TERMINUS runs from February 17 - March 10, 2018 in a limited engagement at NEXT DOOR at NYTW, located at 83 East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue in New York City. Previews begin February 17 for a February 20 opening.

The Off-Broadway hit The Bench starring Robert Galinsky, directed by Jay O. Sanders, will extend its sold out run at The East Village Playhouse (340 East 6th Street). It will start back up after the holidays beginning January 26 and will run an additional 12 weeks through April 13, 2018, playing Friday evening at 9pm. Faust Theatre is wrapping up the 2016 -17 season that began with The Drowsy Chaperone by Bob Martin and Lisa Lambert, directed by Lily Nicholas, followed by a one-night only performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin and Willian Finn, and finished the year with the summer smash-hit of Heathers the Musical by Laurence O'Keefe, both directed by Zach Faust, the latter joined by Frederick Rivera.

The American Playwriting Foundation (David Bar Katz, Executive Director), established to make annual grants to new American plays, has selected Gracie Gardner for The 2017 Relentless Award, the largest annual cash prize in American theater awarded to a play. Established in honor of Philip Seymour Hoffman and his pursuit of truth in the theater, this year's Relentless Award Winner Pussy Sludge is about a young woman who is also an oil well.
