Photo Coverage: FLASHDANCE Cast Meets the Press!

Full casting has been announced and rehearsals have begun for the upcoming national tour of FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation. Joining the previously announced Broadway stars Emily Padgett as Alex, Matthew Hydzik as Nick and Rachelle Rak as Tess are Kelly Felthous as Gloria, DeQuina Moore as Kiki, Jo Ann Cunningham as Hannah, David R. Gordon as Jimmy, Matthew Henerson as Harry and Christian Whelan in the role of C.C. The cast met the press earlier today and you can check out full photo coverage from the festivities below!

Boston Ballet Opens World Premiere of Nissinen's THE NUTCRACKER, 11/23

Boston Ballet debuts an entirely reimagined production of THE NUTCRACKER complete with all-new sets and costumes, as well as new choreography and characters! This holiday classic is presented by State Street Corporation and will run from November 23 - December 30 at The Boston Opera House.

Broadway stars Emily Padgett and Matthew Hydzik will star as "Alex" and "Nick" in the world premiere of FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation. Padgett and Hydzik will be joined on stage by the legendary Rachelle Rak in the role of "Tess." Sergio Trujillo, director and choreographer for the production returned to the home of FLASHDANCE and launch of the world premiere, Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall, to announce the lead casting from a press conference. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Kevin McMahon, CEO of Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, were also on hand to welcome the cast and creative team to Pittsburgh and to make a proclamation, naming January 1, 2013 as FLASHDANCE DAY. FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will perform at The Fox Theatre from February 5-10 as part of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta 2012/2013 season. Nashville-born A STOOP ON ORCHARD STREET Musical Opens in Pennsylvania This Weekend

Ten years after its debut on a Nashville stage-which led to an off-Broadway run-Jay Kholos' A Stoop on Orchard Street this weekend returns to the stage in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, kicking off a three-month run that will take the company, including many of Nashville's best and brightest, to Philadelphia, New York and other points northeastward.

Nashville Symphony to Accompany Nashville Ballet's SLEEPING BEAUTY 10/19-21

Nashville Ballet will open its performance season Oct. 19 - 21 at TPAC's Jackson Hall with one of the most well-known and beloved ballets of all time, The Sleeping Beauty, with live orchestral performance from The Nashville Symphony, an impressive display of classical dance from Nashville Ballet company dancers and a youth cast of 5 to 7 year olds.

Following hard on the heels of a successful revival of Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Strawberry Theatre Workshop continues what's being described as 'a season of agitation and propaganda' with a second company classic, This Land | Woody Guthrie, a play for actors and puppets derived from the music, drawing, and writing of folk artist Woody Guthrie. Strawshop's 2004 production of This Land was the first show in the company's history.

Indianapolis City Ballet Launches Master Class Series

Young dancers in central Indiana can study with ballet greats by taking part in the Indianapolis City Ballet's Master Class Series. The 2012-2013 series, ICB's fourth season, is sponsored by philanthropists Jock and Penny Fortune and takes its first leap Sept. 9, 2012.

Houston Ballet Announces Upcoming Touring Performances

Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch announced touring plans for both the company and second company's 2012-2013 season today. Over the next year, touring engagements will take Houston Ballet from Chicago to Switzerland.

Ballet Hispanico Announces BHdos Performance, 9/2

Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the preeminent Latino dance institution in the United States, announces the first performance of the Fall 2012 Season for BHdos, the company's pre-professional troupe. On September 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm, the company will perform at Central Park's Charles A. Dana Discover Center. The performance is the closing event of the Harlem Meer Performance Festival. UH Stage Management Students Taking Talents Nationwide

The University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance has long produced successful acting talents. Thanks to the school's stage management program, it's also launching the careers of behind-the-scenes stars.In 2011, the school began offering a concentration in stage management for students pursuing a bachelor of fine arts (BFA) in theater. Next summer, the school will graduate its first stage management BFA student, while several others recently took their talents to theater companies across the country.
