The New York Pops just presented On Broadway- an evening which celebrated some of Broadway's most unforgettable hits from the past and present. The sold out concert featured Stephanie J. Michelle Monaghan is set to lead the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' latest romance novel THE BEST OF ME, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Michael Hoffman will direct for Relativity, featuring a script by Will Fetters.

Last night, Roundabout Theatre Company honored Sam Mendes with the Jason Roberts Award for Excellence in Theatre. The criterion for this award is to have made an 'indelible impact on the theatre world.' The award was named after the founder of Roundabout and is given each year in remembrance of his own impact on the theatre world. The new documentary about stage and screen legend Elaine Stritch, Elaine Stritch: SHOOT ME is set for a limited release beginning today, February 21, 2014 at New York City's IFC Center and Lincoln Plaza Cinema. What do romance, supernatural disappearances, dystopian futures, mutants, singing fairy tale characters, lawyers, scientists, and The Four Seasons all have in common? Broadway. Or at least Broadway talent! BWW has gathered together a group of up-and-coming stage stars currently making the transition to the big and small screens in all of these 'genres'.

Two Broadway names are in the mix for the full cast of Cinemax's BLANCO drama pilot, starring Shiloh Fernandez. The Hollywood Reporter writes that A TIME TO KILL's Sebastian Arcelus and THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT's Elizabeth Rodriguez have signed on for the project.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the second time this season to determine the eligibility of 14 Broadway productions for the 2014 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2013-2014 season to decide the eligibility for the 68th Annual Tony Awards.

On Wednesday, December 18th, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Inc. (LDF) hosted a special fundraising event at 54 Below (254 W. 54th Street, NYC) as part of its 'Artists For Justice' initiative. Tony Award-Winning actress Tonya Pinkins, along with other celebrity guests, performed a cabaret concert to benefit LDF's mission. Midtown Direct Rep (MDR), the resident theater company at South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC), has announced that Academy Award-winner Olympia Dukakis will be joined by Midtown Direct Rep company members Sebastian Arcelus, Jenny Bacon, Emily Bauer and Stephanie Kurtzuba, plus special guests Kendra Jain and Dan Ziskie in a one-night-only staged reading of ABSENCE, a new play about memory loss. Former-actress turned director Margaret Whitton stages this new work by emerging playwright Peter M. Floyd that was honored by the Kennedy Center's 2012 Jean Kennedy Smith Award and the 2012 Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Competition. The performance, part of MDR's Theatre in the Loft series focusing on new and innovative American theatre, is Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 7 pm at SOPAC (One SOPAC Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079). The performance will be followed by a discussion with the playwright, the cast and creative team.
