NYC Parks Cuts Ribbon on Restored Historic John T. Brush Stairway

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP joined New York Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost, Executive Vice President of Communications and Senior Advisor to the CEO for the San Francisco Giants Staci Slaughter, former New York Met and Yankee Lee Mazzilli, Assembly Member Herman D. Farrell, Jr. and Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez to cut the ribbon on the newly restored historic John T. Brush Stairway on the 102nd anniversary of its dedication. The stairway connects Edgecombe Avenue at 158th Street in Washington Heights to the Harlem River Driveway where the old Polo Grounds used to sit.

This morning, the Met Orchestra and supporters rallied in Dante Park in front of Lincoln Center before resuming federally mediated negotiations under a 72-hour threat of lockout imposed by opera manager Peter Gelb. The musicians and other Met Opera artists and craftspeople, along with elected officials in NYC and the New York Times in an editorial, have called on Peter Gelb to continue negotiating in good faith and lift his threat of lockout, which Gelb has extended to 72-hours past the contract deadline expiring at midnight last night.

Born for Broadway has announced that its fifth annual celebrity cabaret, featuring Broadway and TV stars donating their time and talent, will take place at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center, 129 W. 67th Street, on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 8 PM. Proceeds will benefit Unite 2 Fight Paralysis, a nonprofit that supports international advocacy, education, and spinal cord injury research.

122 Community Center Ground Breaking Set for 11/20

On November 20, Council Member Rosie Mendez, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate D. Levin, and NYC Department of Design and Construction Commissioner David J. Burney along with leaders from the four arts and service organizations that comprise 122 Community Center (AIDS Service Center NYC, Mabou Mines, Painting Space 122, and Performance Space 122) will break ground at 122 Community Center, a former public school located at 150 First Avenue. The event signals the beginning of Phase II of a $35 million city-funded construction and renovation project that will upgrade and enhance the19th century historic building and increase the space from 35,000 sq. ft. to 43,000 sq. ft.

On Saturday, October 26th 2013, Council Member Domenic M. Recchia, Jr., Alliance for Coney Island, and Coney Island USA hosted the fourth annual Coney Island Children's Halloween Parade. The event drew over 1,500 participants to MCU park, where families were treated to live music, magicians, face painting, and costumed characters before embarking on a parade along the famed Coney Island boardwalk. New York City AIDS Memorial Reaches $4 Million Fundraising Goal

NEW YORK, July 16, 2013 - The New York City AIDS Memorial's Board of Directors (http://nycaidsmemorial.org) today announced that the organization has reached its initial goal of $4 million to finance the design and construction of the new memorial, which will be located in the planned St. Vincent's Hospital Park at the intersection of West 12th Street and Greenwich Avenue in the West Village neighborhood. The memorial will honor the 100,000+ New Yorkers who have died from AIDS, celebrate the caregivers and activists who fought against it, and educate current and future generations about the history of the AIDS crisis and the ongoing struggle to defeat the disease.

Two-time Tony Award-winning singer/actress Christine Ebersole joins jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein and his trio for Strings Attached, a special late-afternoon performance at 92nd Street Y on Thursday, May 16 at 4 pm. Ebersole and the trio showcase classics standards from the '20s and '30s by Fats Waller ("Jitterbug Waltz"), Cole Porter "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye"), Johnny Mercer ("This Time the Dream's on Me") and George Gershwin ("Shall We Dance"). Strings Attached debuted in November 2011 at a sold-out engagement at Birdland Jazz Club; this performance is 92Y's annual Kathryn W. Stein Memorial Concert.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer took a stand today and recognized what the New Penn Station Alliance led by the Municipal Art Society (MAS) and Regional Plan Association (RPA) have already stated New York City needs a new Penn Station.In order for that to happen the Borough President recommended as did the New Penn Station Alliance that the MSG special permit to operate an arena on top of Penn Station be limited to a 10-year term.This 10-year period gives New York the time to develop a real and workable plan to move the Garden and build a world-class train station.Madison Square Garden has already had four incarnations in New York City and it's time for a fifth.
