Photo Flash: Coney Island USA's 4th Annual Coney Island Children's Halloween Parade

On Saturday, October 26th 2013, Council Member Domenic M. Recchia, Jr., Alliance for Coney Island, and Coney Island USA hosted the fourth annual Coney Island Children's Halloween Parade. The event drew over 1,500 participants to MCU park, where families were treated to live music, magicians, face painting, and costumed characters before embarking on a parade along the famed Coney Island boardwalk. Upon arriving at Luna Park, participants were given free admission to rides. Scroll down for photos!

"I'm absolutely thrilled to see such a big turnout at this year's parade," said Council Member Recchia, who was joined by State Senator Diane Savino, Assembly Member Alec Brook-Krasny, New York City Council nominee Mark Treyger and Comptroller nominee Scott Stringer. "People are in high spirits today because, as we approach the first anniversary of Superstorm Sandy and our community rebuilds, they know that Coney Island is stronger than the storm," added Recchia.

This year's parade was unique in its celebration of Coney Island's vibrancy and resiliency as it fell so close to the one year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy. Last year's parade hosted over 1,000 local residents, including 600 children, just two days before Sandy hit land. Now a year after being devastated by the storm, this year's parade served to highlight how far the community has come in its recovery and how dedicated residents have been to reestablishing celebrated neighborhood traditions.
