Bernhard, Choi to Speak At Union Square Rally In Support Of Homeless LGBT Youth 6/14

On Monday, June 14th at 6:30PM, numerous prominent LGBT and progressive leaders and organizations will come together at a highly anticipated rally at Union Square in support of the LGBT Homeless Youth community. Comedian, singer, actress, and author Sandra Bernhard will speak along with Iraq Combat Veteran and gay rights activist Dan Choi, as well as youth representatives from various organizations serving young LGBT people.

On Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 11AM, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe will join Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and Mary Rodgers Guettel, daughter of the composer Richard Rodgers and executive board member of the Rodgers Family Foundation, to break ground on $7 million in improvements to the amphitheater at Marcus Garvey Park, 122nd Street and Mount Morris Park West.

STANDING ON CEREMONY: THE GAY MARRIAGE PLAYS, a collection of short plays written for marriage equality to benefit Human Rights Campaign, Marriage Equality New York and New York Theatre Workshop will take place on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Angel Orensanz Center, 172 Norfolk Street in New York City, between Houston and Stanton Streets. Dancing and a glamorous wedding reception will follow.

The League of Independent Theater and the Innovative Theatre Foundation will co-sponsor The Community Forum on the Ohio Theatre. The event will begin at 6:30pm at the Ohio Theatre located at 66 Wooster Street in Soho, NY. After two years of negotiation, two lease extensions, and a 29-year history as an indispensable pillar of the downtown theatre scene, the Ohio Theatre must close the doors at its Wooster Street space forever on August 31, 2010.

Singer and actress Cyndi Lauper's goal of having Manhattan's first permanent housing for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth in Harlem is closer to being achieved. The project has broken ground, and the residence - to be located at W. 154th Street near Frederick Douglas Boulevard - is set to open Winter, 2011.
